Oh for christ sake the SERV light ISN'T A BLOODY SERVICE LIGHT, it illuminates with another warning light to signal a problem.
Sorry for the rant but its been posted over and over and over again. The airbag light isn't the usual underseat wires is it?
Its the dephaser and I doubt it'll last 2 days let alone 2 weeks if its got to that state (look what happened to DrRollo). It needs sorting now before it takes the valves/possibly head out as well.
You can usually hear the flap move when the stepper motor moves when you adjust the temp on the CC, if you can't it could be either be the motors stuck, motors knackered for the control unit is shot.
Its easy enough to get the ESP to kick in in this weather, just try a spirited pull away and it should kick in to stop the wheels spinning. Its reasonably lazy tbh, it'll let the wheels spin a little bit before it kicks in.
As dan says it will be the dephaser, if its making this noise it won't be too long before it lets go and takes the valves/head with it. Stop using the car and get it changed. Its not a tappet.
I doubt it'll make much difference tbh, on my old 1.6 which was newer and higher insurance group than yours it would've taken it down £25 for a £250 alarm. I wanted one anyway so I bought the alarm itself for £60 and fitted it myself.
Remove the top half of the cowling (pulls off), then if you look down you should be able to poke the clip on the top of the remote and get it out. No need to remove the whole shebang.
No idea why they say you need new calipers you should be able to just wind the piston back in unless its damaged the seals as said. They shouldn't cost too much anyway if you need a new caliper.

Mines ok but it took a fair ammount of fiddling to get it spot on. Sounds awesome, and its fine now i've got it mounted properly. A lot of people don't like them for that reason. Seems pretty well built its just the mounts could do with being adjustable really. The look of them is a...
