I agree with everything you've said about the benefits of ABS...but on this point I feel you are sorely wrong.
Tyres give their most absolute grip when they are slipping across the road surface slightly, be that when they are accelerating, cornering, and braking.
Under braking a tyre is...
Always, and not just when making progress either.
It's essential to prolong the life of your clutch + gearbox, and also helps to keep the car balanced when braking and entering a turn.
Out for another thrash this afternoon, popped once again. Then I noticed the exhaust is blowing slightly.
Would that explain it - oxygen getting in to help it ignite?
Out for a thrash, approaching a 3rd gear corner hard in 4th, onto the brakes, blipped as I dropped a gear as I normally do, then as it continued to run down in 3rd, the exhaust popped :D
Tried it repeatedly after that to no avail.
What actually makes it happen? What can I do to make it do...
I'm still on my original bearings after 67k miles and countless track/airfield days.
Sounds like something else is causing it in your case...either that or you keep getting bearings from a bad batch.
I'm waiting on a boss at the moment and have already chosen my wheel :)
The rearview mirrors...grrrrrrrr!
The mount was still set high-up from when I filmed a speedo vid - I just forgot about it and didn't realise untill I got home after the trackday...definitely down for the next one...
