If you don't change quickly though, the revs drop on the car and then when you release the clutch car try's to slow down cos of low engine revs, surely this f***s it up more?

Mine does it, won't rev above 6800ish when cold but goes up to 7250 when warm. I've seen the light in 5th ;)

Mine does this (172) sycro mesh is fucked. New gearbox/rebuild time.

1) Personally i wouldn't buy a car that hadn't been serviced atleast once a year. 2) Engine stays warm for ages, but can't comment as don't know what you call warm, or what the weather was like 3)Mine idles fine after the first drive of the day. But when cold it's crap for first 10 minutes.
