Ahh cool, set to DC and the 10mA. It should give a reading of some sort the way i mentioned before, as long as you have the probes the right way round lol
Set your meter to amps, remove the negative cable on the battery.
Now put the probes of the meter to finish the circuit. So, one on the battery terminal and the other on the negative cable.

Looking at the jack in that link, it has a maximum height of 300mm. It will get harder as you get nearer to it's limit.
