I suspect your calipers hadn't been serviced properly. The inside pad on the front calipers are known to stick if not stripped and serviced annually. I think you are the first person I've heard complain that the mk3 brembos weren't great!

No real need to replace them (if you are referring to the copper washers on the banjo bolts?. If you heat them up until glowing with a blow torch and let them cool down again they should seal just fine.

Sounds like every 197 I've ever seen or been in inc the one I owned for 2 years. They are all a lumpy and need to be heavily revved to get them moving.
