Why would you not be able to undo them at the side of the road? I'm fairly sure you'll be over tightening them if you are just using a wheel wrench, hence making it harder to undo next time. Torque them up to the proper amount (about 120nm?) and they will a) be safe and 2) come undone fairly...

It'll be the caliper, both of mine did it. Easy to check the cable, just unhook the end of it from the caliper and see if it moves.

All the Renault Sport models have VVT. The F4R engine is used in various cars without the VVT, but none of the Clio's.

What car do you have? if it's a 172/182 then yes you have VVT

Buy the set from Renault then sell it on again. You'll make most of the money back (it's what I did)
