Given how well received the clios have been by the press (from the Williams onwards) I'm surprised we've not seen a big group test. Would be interesting. I think the most impressive aspect of the 197 is that it can match the older cars (and beat some of them), but with a lot more refinment. I'd...
Think the lap time vs a Trophy would disagree with that. Similar power to weight ratio, closer ratio gearbox, far better brakes, and yet still slower lap than the Trophy.
I went from a 172, to a 182, back to a 172. In normal driving, bugger all difference (both my 172's were quicker), I'd not do the same again. A H&R'd 172 would be the better handling car, and you've got a great colour. Getting a 182 or a Trophy?
Work on St Swithins St (end of the shambles). Only picked the Trophy up yesterday, but there's an older bird from Malvern that brings her Trophy in every day!
Horses for courses. 197 is more capable, but less feelsome. As quick as a 182, but feels slower (refinement?). One thing to bear in mind (depending on what mileage you do) is fuel costs. 197's are a fair bit heavier on juice (closer to V6 mpg than 172).
