Valvers are getting much faster as they get older though.
All that rust failing off is bound to save quite alot of weight. ;-)
No seriously this is one mk2 owner that loves the mk1's. Dan's white one looks and sounds superb.
I only do about 2500 a year too. Only because I only really use my car at weekends and never go away in Britain. Maybe the odd trip to the south coast or bluewater. I don't drive it too work and when I do I car share with a mate so we do half and half. Other times I take L/T because parking in...
In-gear them VAG diesels are bloody fast though.
I reckon quite even. JONGSR4 managed to p*ss off a Cooper-S in his VTS a couple of years ago. Although the newer ones have more BHP and an early S would proberbly blow up if you tried to race anything. Mate of mines has been back to the dealers...
I see a Cup with gold turini's and grey foglight surrounds quite often. Think it might be a LAD one. Flash hims a couple of times but he looks like a miserable t*sser.
You'd been very very pushed to get a decent (non cat D) Cup for under £6k.
I'd choose the mk1 172 because £6k would be a decent one and a £6k Cup wouldn't be a great one.
Althought they are getting cheap! Maybe if you wait a couple of days
lol!
trills and spills mean feck all round here. I envy you people who live in the sticks with decent roads, fewer speed cameras, less pot holes and less police.
In the "real" world there is hardy any difference in performance. The Cup feels more responsive due to it's lighter weight. The Cup does handle a bit better though.
If I was buying again it would be a Black 172 with Turini's and Cup spoilers.
