how does the r5 speedo sensor work... is it a mechanical cable like the mk1 clio with an electrical loom plug near the dials?

i've always wondered how it works on modern cars where the tax is based on C02 it's easy on mine as its just lumped by engine size (1.8 to 2 leeeetah, so no change anyway)
