david yup hd dvd will downscale back to 526 if its not connected to a hdcp compliant device by a hdcp compliant connection method yes it sux ms were saying tho that they dont think anyone will impliment the downscaling of content tho if its not connected by a hdcp compliant method

yes but the problem comes with hdcp as component doesnt support hdcp therfor if they do decide to use hdcp it will just scale it down to a standard definition image (applies to hddvd mainly )
