yes Mutant stuff is poor(mind you for £50 you can do little better), however you might have connected them to show an 8 ohm load as opposed to a 2. I have heard lots of stories about hthe Mutant stuff going pop, bang and crackle! plus they dont like hot weather

yes, many amp manufacturers hae hgh level inputs but generally they sound tosh.

Genesis do a 6x9 shape sub which is ideal, you can run 2 at 2 ohm really easily and box them in below your shelf. This is cost effective.

the loom has a blue and white wire, you might need to snip it and connect suing a block connector or bullets then heatshrink. you can then run the cable to the amp through the car. You don't need huge cable as it is only carrying a signal.
