Right as some of you may know im getting rid of my valver...but am struggling to do so and it needs sorted before the end of the month before it needs taxed again.
Now, i have seen a suitable replacement at a local garage - a 1.2 Mk 1 Phase 3...40k on the clock and listed at about 2k. Question...
Well it wont be anything too extreme...just be a swap between a sh*tty 1.2 DIET engine and a 1.4 energy engine. I might be able to blag the capacity increase too as 1.2 and 1.4 energys look identical... ;)
Thanks!
A few questions about swapping engines insurance/DVLA wise;
Will insurance company only charge more if the capacity increases?
How will the insurance group actually be altered - will it take the group of the car the engine came from or is it worked out another way?
What does the DVLA...
Youll be better off asking over on http://www.retro-renault.comwww.retro-renault.com as theyre more R19 orientated than here even tho its basically the same engine. IIRC stan* is also on the site...
Williams or maybe Gti-6. Ive driven a 106 and found the steering rediculously light and the pedal area was so cramped i couldnt get the accelerator all the way to the floor...VTS is probably the same.
Well I rarely see VTS up here and if i do theyre fairly standard. However, theres a cup with lexus lights down the back of my work carpark right now if that answers the question...
M8, did i say that?? *rolls eyes*
What i mean is that they arent as advanced as say the mk2 yet arent exactly stone age technology...i.e a happy medium.
I wouldnt say retro TBH, id say last of the best - i.e. cars that can still cut it yet dont need a dealer with a diag machine every 5 seconds to fix something...
Same when i got my 16v - if you go and buy an ISO lead from halfords it labels the wires and most of these are the same colour etc as the ones in the car - for those that arent you can usually trace them to the individual speakers but the power ones are obvious...
Ive stuck a reply in meets & events about Crail - unfortunately ive never been before so am waiting for AJR or the like to comment to times etc
As for the car, goes in tomorrow to have the PAS removed so i recon that should free up a good 5bhp...and once i get it serviced i should defo...
Aye-aye m8 - you ready for Crail? Well need to get a meet-up time (with AJR too) sorted for the trip down - should be a good laugh to say the least! My valver is going in tomorrow to unleash some more power so be prepared! ;)
Im not going to turn this into another mk1 vs mk2 arguement but suffice to say that a 2ltr F7 makes about 85% of its total torque from about 2500rpm which is pretty damn hardcore IMO...the 172/182 lump doesnt and no exhaust will dramatically change that as its design inherant.
182Blue, fair...
Erm, i dont think any (standard) valver owner here said that a 17/82 was slower, i think were just commenting on the awkward driving position and poor power delivery - drive an 2ltr F7 and youll know what we mean.
As ive said before, to get the car to shift you need to be high up the rev range to extract a decent amount of torque > therby sluggish below that point > therby nowt to do with driving ability. As ive also said, this isnt what id expect from a modern 2ltr...
1st - J Reg 1.1 R5 - good car until it constantly refused to start,
2nd - N Reg 1.1 Punto - good car
3rd - L Reg 1.4 R5 (lowered, alloys, splitter) - loved this until it got written off,
4th - K Reg 1.4 Clio RT (lowered, alloys) - pile of sh*te,
5th - P Reg 1.6 Megane RT (lowered, 17s...
I hate to throw this into the topic (as itll kick of a ton of arguments) but what about a williams - its 2ltr and has far more torque lower down despite being 10 years older...
I have to agree, having driven my sisters 172 i find the power delivery is as bad, if not worse than my 16v...you really need to be at high revs to get anywhere quickly - not what id expect from a modern 2ltr 16v TBH.
Defo good cars but hype has taken over from reality...
True but TBH if someones gone to the effort of joining a club of car enthusiats then id have thought the ability to open a bonnet would have been mastered by that point...no offence...
