Tax and insurance is by the by. Any 3 door 2.0 petrol car would be the same. MPG is a joke for the performance but unless you're doing 15k a year or more, it's largely irrelevant. I appreciate what you say about a higher grade car, but there are very few standard cars that are as good on track...

Bless your stepdad. I think you're a bit harsh on him. Car's looking good though. Spray that black fire proof mat at the back of the engine with a cheapo can of satin black. It will look brand new. Takes less than 30 seconds to do and makes a massive difference.

You don't need spring compressors on sports. I am a mechanical buffoon and even I figured out how to change the suspension over mate. Honestly, it's very easy. Between me and a mate we can do it in 40 minutes now.
