Powder coatings/paint in the bolt holes can cause it. Burpspeed had the issue. If I was you i'd get the dremel in there and get the holes back to bare metal. But as Si said, wheel bearings are also a culprit.

Clear coat is laquer. If paint has faded under the laquer, no amount of polishing will bring it back and a respray is the only solution. Seat ovni yellow being a prime example. I'll get some pics of the one I did.

Red astras are not clear coated. I know this because I had a pink one in today for full correction and then a valet. Came up like new but vauxhall red paint is f**king s**t and no doubt it will be faded and crappy again soon as the owner isn't one for car care.
