What was the speedo doing before you swapped the sensor over? Usually when the speedo sensor is going the speedo needle doesn't hold steady but wobbles about and then every now and again will drop to zero. Was it doing this? Or did it just stop working altogether?
I think he hit the D key instead of the F key - should be CAF.
IMO you are better off with the standard airbox. My 172 had a BMC CDA on it when I bought it and out of interest I picked up a 2nd hand standard airbox cheap to try and put an ITG panel filter in it. With the standard airbox/panel...
Thanks for the reply Mick. Yes I should've said that I looked for any signs that the upper engine/gearbox mounts had shifted but I couldn't see any (no marks etc). All bolts etc were tight.
Full disclosure - I have Vibratechnics/Ktec engine mounts and Powerflex dogbone bushes in my 172 and with those it had a bit of increased vibration over the oem mounts but tbh not much (I was fairly careful with the installation :) )
Now, I did a trackday last month and the car was great...
Not too many on mine - cut my own tow stickers (front/rear)and Renaultsport logos (sides) out of the same anthracite vinyl that the stripes were done in, French flag on the grill, and an Alpine Affaire sticker (local Renault specialist) on the rear window. Been meaning to take that one off...
I was having the same issue with the cig lighter - the lighter plug would definitely heat up but a usb adapter wouldn't seem to be able to get any current. Ended up dropping a folded up bit of folded aluminium foil in the bottom of the cig lighter and now the usb adapter works fine. Guess the...
I had a BMC CDA on my 172 which was installed by the previous owner - decided I would try a standard airbox with ITG panel filter. Sound is still good but car actually drives miles better - better throttle response and more torque compared to the BMC CDA. So sold that and left the standard...

- Driver side top mount bolts onto engine (3 bolts): 62NM
- Driver side central nut: 44NM
Upper Gearbox Mount
- Passenger side upper mount to gearbox (3 bolts): 62NM
- Passenger side upper mount/battery...
Hey ozclio03, I assume that wasn't at one of the 3 main Renault specialists in Melbourne (Alpine Affaire, Virage, AutoParis)? I struggle to think they'd charge you 4hrs labour for that...
Best method to remove badges is to heat them up with a hairdryer or heat gun (not too close!) which will soften the double sided tape they are stuck on with, and then use a bit of fishing line to remove the badge from the body.
Get some 3M double sided automotive tape to stick the badges back...
Just to follow up on this - took the car back to the mechanic on Monday morning. NSF brakes were checked again and they were sure the caliper was fine, so removed the DS2500's and fitted some standard pads to see if it was indeed the pads that were the issue - voila the squeak was gone and brake...
Yeah that is what I am thinking - hopefully we can sort it on Monday. The squeaking is getting on my tits somewhat lol...
If it is a seized or sticking piston then is it a caliper refurb or easier to source a new s/h caliper?
A bit of an update on this - car was serviced and new s/s brakelines and fluid fitted. Sliders checked and lubed. Pads were found to be binding a little and had a bit more ground off the backing plate to guarantee clearance. Car felt a lot better but still have this intermittent squeaking - temp...
I have had this same noise for a while now - started not long after my previous service when both belts were done.
I forgot to ask about it at my recent service and it wasn't picked up on as it probably didn't happen due to the engine not being cold - is it something that should be looked at...
You could possibly replace the bushes with a set of Powerflex ones if you wanted, but if you wanted to stay with OEM then need to get a whole new dogbone mount IIRC...
