Engine/Gearbox mountings ?

  Clio 1.2 1999
Hi Everyone,
" Classic Car owner requires help with Son's Clio"
Its a 1999 1.2 with 82k on the clock. When you lift off the accelerator( or give it some welly) the gearstick moves backwards or forwards by about an inch, accompanied by a muffled clunk.Steering seems unaffected.
Now I'm ok on the mechanicals of my 1966 midget but when it comes to modern, transverse-engined front wheel drive jobbies - I'm all at sea!
I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me a lead here.

thanks,

Chico

I could be wrong here but i would say it was the"Dog Bone Mount" as the rubbers are prob stuffed in it.

Thanks for the info. Would that be a DIY job for a chap with a trolley jack, pair of ramps etc ? Can you just replace the bushes ?
Thanks,
Chico

Be better off buying new from renault and yeah it can bee done with a jack and a few axel stands.

Its only 2 bolts that hole it in place, all i can say is that when doing mate sure yu put the bolts back in the correct way

You could possibly replace the bushes with a set of Powerflex ones if you wanted, but if you wanted to stay with OEM then need to get a whole new dogbone mount IIRC...

Thanks everyone- it was the Dogbone mount . My boy reports that his car is just like new! smooth gear-change and no clunking.
