I've had cars at my garage that have taken upto 6 weeks to clear off Hpi even though the money has been settled.
All you need is a fax/Letter from the finance company to confirm they no longer have an interest in the car.
I just spent a long time prepping my mums MX5 ready for a good machine polish this afternon, I washed the engine, door shuts, arches etc....

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the standard brakes on a 172/or a cup.
You must have had some cheap aftermarket ones fitted by the previous owner or something.

When you say satin black the parcel shelf, there is a dye that you can buy as the satin black rattle can stuff marks very easily when/if something brushes against it.
