It's jammed in the open position. Grab a screwdriver and have a poke about (there's probably s technical term for that) to see if it will release. Once it's shut don't open it again until you can replace the catch!

As Chris says ^ that's what the law requires you to have to accompany a learner. You don't even need to be insured on the car as long as the learner is then it's fine! So I'd say yeah crack on!

Not all ph2's had alarms... iirc uk spec models had alarms as standard. Easiest way to check is see is the sensors.

Do you have the sensors? Bonnet switch?

Turn the ultrasonic sensors off. A quick Google will tell you how or look in the handbook
