Have you any marks on the wheel arch lip, black rubber on it. ? Could also be rubbing on the rear bumper bracket, if so this just needs a little bit being bent out of the way.

You need to get the arches (paint) nice and warm, it is also best to put a silicone in the arch, so when it's folded it also seals it.
As long as you do it slowly and carefully, you should not distort the arch.
I have an arch roller (not a hammer), patience is the key.
