Kev md - you could use velcro or double sided tape (make sure you get some strong stuff though) if you don't want to drill the plates.
It may be cheaper to find one from another mk1 172/v6 - although tbh even vee's with little mileage on still have knackered steering wheels (i'm talking cars on 10k with badly worn steering wheels)
In my experience every car at an auction has had something wrong with it, even ones that are less than a year old. Ex company car generally the worst, ie all dented & scratched up.
I'd have an idea of what I wanted & stick to it, buy something that people will want when you come to sell it on...
The fronts usually got for anthing between £200 -300, full interiors are about the £400 mark or so.
So basically the price is bit on the high side though, i'd go for £120 unless it's totally mint.
I've never heard of fullrun tyres at all, they sound totally budget to me.
One thing - never scrimp on your tyres at all, remember they are the only things in contact with the road.
Clarkie runs Nankangs on his mk1 vee & rates them highly, if they were crap etc he wouldn't use them.
Someone on here (I don't remember who though) has been to see it, apparently it's had had a whack (up the back iirc) and it's not been repaired that well.
There were also some other things wrong with it.
