Check the aux belt is on the right way. If it's on the wrong way (very easy mistake to make) it can run on the plastic housing on that side of the engine.
Check my project thread as we made that mistake on mine, but noticed before we fired it up.
I have found my Bilsteins excellent, done a fair few miles now and they have been great on road and track. To give you an idea of ride height and them working hard on track a couple of photos;
I have heard the BCs are very good, but never been in a car with them, so can't comment on that...

Only way to get rid of them I believe is to swap the clocks to cup clocks iirc. I have the ABS part of my loom cut out, but the light is still triggered. Obviously.
I didn't bother, just blanked off the light for the MOT ;)
I have some cup clocks, and next time the dash is up I'll fit them...
