Yeah I used it for a year as a daily, took it all over Europe and towed the Clio round with it. £650ish with 4yr NCB. I would have kept it longer, would have probably done another 40k with ease, but I just wanted to buy something a bit newer as a daily so got the BMW.

I had a 2000 plate Passat TDI estate, it was only 110bhp and bought it on 180k. Lasted me a year and 40k miles, sold if for more than I paid, £950. Towed trailer + Clio no issue at all. As you probably know, you can't really go wrong with a VAG diesel.

Would more than likely be fine for a small trailer to run to the tip, but a car is a different matter. Saw a 172 turn up to a trackday once pulling a concerted caravan chassis with a car on the back... Couldnt get more illegal lol.

You are correct - VRS cant 'legally' tow, just like Clios cant. More than likely down to the design of the rear end not being strong enough to pull weight. You need a tow car that has a braked towing weight limit of at least 1400kg+ to be 'legal' once you have your B+E licence. If you're buying...

Depending on how far you go with a track car spec some probably wont even insure it. I gave up insuring the Mk1 as the amount I used it wouldnt justify the cost of Tax/Insurance/MOT. I just trailered it instead after getting B+E licence.

There are Mk1 Clio shells all over the forums, usually just rolling and end up getting scrapped when people dont want them. Bare standard shell wont be worth much with a bit of searching, few hundred quid max... I sold my bare valver shell (caged/painted/rust free) for £1k. I've done a B18FT...

We saw the Exige and RS250 go past us on the back section of the Evo... I was in a Black E46 touring, Dale in his Red Mk1 and another mate on his bike/r1.. We saw the police/ambulance near the cafe/wall too and feared the worst, saw alot of people over the wall so thought something had happened..

Yeah I've been doing a bit of reading over the weekend - purple tagged e46 racks with 067 code is the one apparently? Im assuming the CSL one will be a fair whack more expensive mind! Windy sunroof will have to do for now until I decide what I'm doing cage wise/got the car running/set up...

Something else probably, maybe a dark silver/grey. Need to have a think! Bad thing is you cant plate the sunroof on them like a Clio etc, as they are an actual body panel which goes under the roof. Just going to end up painting it and fitting a manual mechanism I think!

Touring - quiet, comfortable, quick(er than dales lol) and handles great. Cant be doing with noisy bouncy bucket seats on the road anymore!

Giving it thought at the moment as the only downside with it is its got a sunroof, but im just going to have to go with it I think. Also it would need blitzing inside and out with a paint gun along with the mtec kit so everything matches, only a weekends job I guess.
