I'm hoping to have the few jobs tidied up and everything good to go by Oulton Park on 17th Feb, will have to see how it goes then!
Andy/Gaz, its something I have read about on the E30 forum and it could be a wise idea to brace it somehow. People suggest bracing the ARB mounts on the rear arms...
Just keep an eye out on here, you'l find one quite quickly i'd imagine.
It seems to be 'the done thing' to build a 'track' based car on here, although never taking it anywhere near a track and then selling it (or breaking it for parts).
Good luck!
I wasn't 100% sure either, but after looking around on the internet for pictures/a breakdown how it works I fitted it the same as it would be on a VAG 1.8T. It certainly works the way it is now when driven/revved up, only lets the excess boost through when off the throttle (on vac) as it should...
The motivation is still there (somewhat), I got about as far as...
I just dont get time with helping everyone else with their projects so its not been touched since Oulton. Its not been like the Clio where it had to be working with driving it all the time, so I'm not really in any rush for it...
Yeah well it seems alright for now, hopefully be gone in the first few weeks of January! No doubt itl trip out when I drive it in the next few days lol.
Nah, another Diesel tow car, probably a 320d/330d/A6 2.5tdi or something like that, the Passat has been great but I just need something a bit...
(un)Related post, finally got round to servicing the Passat I use to tow stuff around with today. New filters/oil/coolant/thermostat/blah and more importantly a turbo stripdown. I keep having limp mode issues under load (common with the TDi apparently on higher milage) - where it will drop all...
Yeah I've read that all over, time will tell I guess. Just need to get hold of a Walbro225 in E30 fitment so the filter is in the correct orientation to replace the S14 one which gave the issues (actual pumps being the same dimensions mind!) and hopefully all will be well to hammer the f*ck out...
Not driven it anywhere near as hard yet, so can't tell really. The suspension feels a LOT better though, nowhere near as crashy as the FKs were.
Started it a couple of times since Oulton but thats about it, been busy with work and other stuff. Going to tidy the bits up that need to after...
Bit of a summary about what happened at Oulton then..
I had the exhaust made on Friday - I wanted it 3inch all the way back and not boomy/loud. Ended up putting a 100cell sports cat (that I already had) up front with a backbox, then just a 3" straight tip. Whole thing was TIG'd, really nice...
Haha a pet dog could have drove a faster lap. It wasn't holding boost, pissing about with it all day, never got a decent session in really! Il update this properly later
Only E30zone Gaz.
Exhaust was made today, 3" back from the downpipe. Very happy with it, not overly loud on idle and a nice tone in general.
Its got a full tank, been cleaned and a few last jobs done (fitted steering wheel and gearknob!) - ready for Oulton tomorrow. The forecast is dry so...
Adamanderton is doing the day in his Clio, there are couple already just coming down I think... BrenRogers, Jamierigby, rob91, Jams and a few more as far as I know!
Cheers for the comments everyone. Off to collect it on the trailer shortly, exhaust being made tomorrow, then Oulton on Saturday. Forecast is looking good too :)
Quite a few are popping down Rhys, couple of others off here doing the trackday also. Let us know.
Yeah, C-spanners are in the box to take with just in case. The fronts haven't been adjusted, I removed the helper springs (which were fully compressed anyway) and it dropped to that height so just...
Right its pretty much ready for Oulton Park on Saturday, happy with how its come together. I had a few issues bleeding the brakes, particularly one of the rear calipers, nothing would come out of the bleed screw. Stripped it down and the hole was rusted/blocked, so cleaned it all out...
Il probably do the cooler at some point, just been trying to get everything bolted together for now. As for the bump stop things nope, I was going to remove them, strip the damper out of them and just put the front part back on to mount the 'bumper' from, but not got round to it yet. Its on the...
Quite a lot done since the last post. I changed the way that the seats were going to be mounted, simply because with 40/45mm bar welded across the floor pan the seat would be rather high, I wanted to keep them quite low and just use the holes on the sidemounts if I ever wanted to raise them up...
My Clio (Mk1) ones were quite a bit more complicated than the BMW. Its easy this time as both sides of the car where they mount are pretty much vertical. I have opted to use roll cage tube again with brackets for the sidemounts to bolt to. Basically its as 'simple' as just making plates for the...
I am still contemplating chopping the strut tops off when I fit the cage, lol. I removed them from the car earlier and took the (pointless) helpers out, should give me 20mm drop without moving the adjusters if my measurements were right - So I'l have to see how it goes!
Well its booked in to have its exhaust made on the 2nd December, and then off to Oulton on Saturday 3rd December :)
Started on the seat bars earlier, hopefully have those finished in the next couple of days while I wait for the brake lines to arrive. Should get it driving under its own power...
Well, the Gaz's came back on Friday along with the 'complementary' top mounts due to all the messing around. Although, they still aren't right. They have just been supplied with 6" springs and helpers now instead of the 9" single spring. So yeah, the spring platform will be higher to miss the...
Which wind out when you want to swap wheels after half a day on track with the nut still attached.........yes. Threadlock or no threadlock they are unreliable IMO, they might be fine for a while, but at the end of the day a fixed pressed fitting will never compare to a wind in stud. On the road...
Search for either of my project threads. Machine back face down a few MM so the heads don't catch anything, drill the threads out to 1/2" to accept the spines as a tight fit. Press in with a press. Plus bearing then press the stub back into the hub.
No stronger, just easier to swap wheels and...
