Bgger cones, generally, can mean more bass. But a dedicated sub in a proper box will always be better. If you're going to start a boot build for speakers, why bother taking the sub out in the first place. I don't know what you're using but maybe you can just downsize a little? a single 12" in...

well, as good as you're going to get without sticking 6xChavs in the shelf. About the same as underseat subs, but a good sight cheaper. You can get 6" versions too if you want to go some handiwork on the mounting points. That extra inch will make a difference.... ...that's what she said.
