Don't skimp on tyres and brakes.
Have you checked the earth straps? It could be an earthing issue. Try taking them off and cleaning the terminals up, I had similar issues on my old 172 - the temperature guage shot all over the place and it occasionally wouldn't start... The nearside earth strap under the arch liner needed...
For what it takes to check it its worth pulling the airbox out and giving the metal tip a clean/light sand down!
Think its x2 13/14mm bolts to undo it!

As already said, good Dc2's are commanding 'scene' tax and people are clocking that and pricing them as such.
The reality is, driven at 10/10th's neither would be noticeably quicker, you'll just pay less for a Trophy.
