Haha yeah it wasn't as windy today as it has been here.
It's something I've seen before and wanted to have a crack at. It works really well with good colours at sunrise/set.
Have a look on Flickr, there are some brilliant ones.
What?
Each shot was set on aperture priority at f/2.8 so they were roughly 1/60th of a second exposures.
Left camera running for 47 minutes. Put all into starstax in lighten mode.
Probably Killzone 2 - Either Radec Academy or Tharsis Refinery. Both small maps, really good with full games, 12v12 iirc.
Knew exactly where to run for each game mission and was really good with the "Assassination" game mode. Only a few places to hide the target so you really did have to work as...
Took this in my back garden tonight. Not the best location but I was cooking and didn't realise the sky was so good.
This was 569 shots with a 5 second interval. Stacked using lighten mode in Starstax and some PP in lightroom.

Yeah the wife just looked and she paid £143 in 2009 for her setup.
Can find the head for £50ish though and the legs for around £100. Laura has said hers is pretty jerky though but that might be because she hardly uses it.
Thats the exact setup the wife has and I really like it. Can get a new version of the legs and a ball head for £199 from our local indy - they will match WEX's prices. I'm just not sure I want a ball head as I quite like the Swivel & Tilt of the 804

Not sure if that works. Stupid amazon app for sharing.
I'd also go for a wireless shutter if you can. I know the wired ones are super cheap but the lead seems to be fairly short on the cheaper ones. Saying that, I got a cheap wireless one and it only worked for a couple of weeks before packing in.
I've just got one for £25 from Amazon which has...
No worries. Hope you enjoy it over there!
Tony - I've been looking at the Manfrotto 190ProB but not sure what head to go for yet. I need something that will be more stable than the current one I have, especially as I want to be doing a lot more star trail and timelapse this year.
Like you say, the whole place has gone quiet recently.
I remember when I first joined it was very busy in most sections. I know people move on from forums but this place seems to have gone very quiet very quickly.
Hopefully with the comps being featured on the main page there will be more...
Definitely buy a tripod.
Get this. http://www.tesco.com/direct/hama-traveller-compact-pro-tripod/210-4437.prd
It's small and light and will do the job. It's what I've used for years and I'm only just looking to upgrade due to having a bigger and heavier camera.
Puy the camera in manual mode...
Hmnn, Looks a bit noisy on the computer (was on the phone earlier). I only asked because some Aurora has been visible in the UK the past couple of weeks. Might just be the editing though like you say.
Aperture priority and auto iso.
All depends on the light. If it's fairly light there then maybe f8. If it's dark, then as low as you can get it - f3.5/4?
I really need to invest in a good filter system that will work with ten stop filters. The screw in one is really good on my 10-20 as when you screw it in it doesn't effect the focus. It fits on my 24-105 but you have to be so careful not to knock the focus.
Went on a Sunrise mission this...
The whole photo section is very quiet, but saying that, the majority of the forum is too (or the parts I frequent anyway)
My 550d is well used and very well worn. Scratches on the screen and body etc. I'm in a similar situation as to get rid or not. I've a 55-250 and a Sigma 10-20 for it that...
