    Valve guides

I'm trying to get some, the garage said they might be able to get them from the local Renault garage as they've done that a few times before. The lad working on it is an ex Renault Sport guy, he's worked on the Williams, 1*2 and in Sweden on the V6s.

    EC1 ECU

Its 2 years old. Metal case, plug is good but it needs wiring it to the standard loom.

    Catcams 422

Yes I will do tomorrow. I'm starting to think it'll be more hassle than its worth. I need to stop messing around and get it out on track. I'll give Paul and Catcams a call though to find out the details.

    Catcams 422

Title is 422, and the first question refers to them. Then I asked a second question if the answer of the first question was no.

    Catcams 422

Yes they would be better, however its even more cost on pistons and a rebore. Honda VTEC engine run a similar compression ratio and they cope fine with high rpm lairy cams. Granted the dynamic CR will be reduced though. Tbf the catcams 422 are still not that lairy, but are about as far as I'd...

    Catcams 422

I'm not sure they'd need much. I'll give catcams a call on Monday. They were very helpful and spot on with info when I did a ST170

    Catcams 422

I've been looking at the Gen90 as the plug and play is appealing I could get the engine place by me to do bigger valve cutouts in the standard pistons for the 422s if required I can't find any dyno data for them to compare with other cams though.

    Valve guides

No on other engines. If its pointless I'll leave them.

    Catcams 422

Obviously some high CR pistons would be nice to make the most of them but will they work with the standard items without the valves touching? If not, how much better are the 421 over the Pipers?
  13. Ph1 Tom

    Valve guides

Yeah. I was just looking at replacing the springs whilst they were out, might avoid a dropped valve in the long run. I've had a couple of springs go in the past

    Valve guides

PEC. I haven't ordered yet though. I can give you a ring on Monday. Do you do the valve springs too?
  15. Ph1 Tom

    Valve guides

Works out at £21 per valve. I'm contemplating some bigger cams, maybe 422 or 423. Does anyone know if they clear the pistons or do they need cutouts?

    Valve guides

Then it'll be ready for ITBs and plenty of track abuse ;)
  17. Ph1 Tom

    Valve guides

Well its getting a port and polish, Supertech valves, new guides, new seals and Catcams valve springs
  18. Ph1 Tom

    Valve guides

    Are they prone to wear?
  19. Ph1 Tom

    Valve guides

Sending the head off on Monday for a port and polish and some new valve stem seals. The engine runs very well and is on 87k so is it worth doing the guides for an extra £200 (I'm not even sure they need doing) or just get the seals done?

Re: Ph1 172 Head off and bottom end looks mint! TBH I'm not even 100% it was even the head gasket leaking. Oh well its off now so get the head freshened up, bolt it all up and crack on with the rest. Shame I'm going to miss the track day, only way I can make it is if I don't go ahead with the...

Re: Ph1 172 I guess so. I'm worried about finding the pistons rings and bearing shells needing doing too when its all in bits. Yeah mine isn't mint enough for me to worry about binning it
