Was my wheel bearing when this happened to me, easy way to check its nothing engine related is drive along, shift into neutral and if its quiet just turn the engine off. If its still there and gets quieter as you slow down should be that.

I went down the halfrauds airfilter route before i could afford a back box, and was plesantly suprised at when i got from it, much throatier sound, was louder than any other filter on any of my mates cars, not sure why but i wasnt complaining!! If you got the funds have a decent backbox made up...

You might get away with removing the stereo, just see what you can see, have a bit of a poke around, and make sure everything is tight, if no joy then just wack the dash off, as i found out not as hard as you may think... although i need to do it again in a few weeks, hmmm.. anyways, should be...

I had this also on my mk2 ph1, but it just meant that my seat wouldnt go all the way back (at the time i didnt know what it was) and to say the least it was fustrating to not be able to move the seat back being 6"2, thankfully my dad has more common sense and is a whizz with a screwdriver so...

Sounds like your connector for the stalk/lcd display?? Seems like too much of a coincidence that these things have gone at the same time? Sometimes with lots of driving these things work their way loose, might be worth giving it a check?? One of my adaptors shook loose after a lot of "spirited"...

I'm no pro but as far as i'm aware you can just key it with some wet and dry (or similar) and off you go. I'm sure a guru will be along soon.. :D
