Don't think you have to tell them as it is technically no different to having a repair done. Just a more cost effective way of doing it, the dvla must be told, as you have done, but i don't see why you would have to tell insurance. But i'm not 100%.

Once you take it off the keyrings and all that it does come open as shown in the manual, just gotta really give it some wellie!!! F**king hurts my fingers trying to open them though!!
