What have you done to your car today ???

fitted a new lambda sensor to my phase 1. A job I never ever ever want to have to do again! Tried to swap the gearbox mount for a vibratechnics one but couldn't get it out. Took my anger out on my airbox and smashed it to bits - anyone selling a ph1 airbox? lol

    Project #56; Clio Trophy

Good calls. I looked at your video of the steering rack play, and mine is different, It's more of a... twangy knock. And it only occurs with the left wheel on the ground. All my mounts are replaced with uprated polybush ones (or Vibratechnics). Lower dogbone, upper gearbox, upper engine.

    Project #56; Clio Trophy

I had exactly that and its gone now. You could always try new inner tie rods as the play can sometimes be in those. With you saying about 'taking off' how do you mean? Do you mean accelerating hard, if so I would seriously look at the lower gearbox mount (dogbone) as this is the cause of that...

    Project #56; Clio Trophy

...cars I've worked on. Anti roll bar bushes. They are tight, and good condition. Can't see it being them. Engine and gearbox mounts. New VibraTechnics mounts put in 2000km ago I'm really lost as to what it could be. Everything feels very tight about the suspension. I am beginning to think it...

My Clio 172 PH1 Daily Progress Thread

...swap, engine cover and heat shield fitted. Future plans include alloy header tank, black silicone coolant hose kit, powercoated inlet, VibraTechnics engine mounts and a bloody good scrub up. When purchased: As it stands: Whilst we're on the subject of ph1 clios, WTF is up with those cats...

Uprated engine mounts and bigger brakes?

Nothing special about fitting the mounts that I know of. I use the vibratechnic mounts which give slightly more vibration through the car but nothing that bothers me. No point in larger rears. The standard ones hardly do anything anyway.

    Harphamominom's Ph1 Project - sunflower content p12 onwards

...and new. Sym0n's has the same set up iirc and his doesn't rattle or anything, but does drive really well. Ktec the best people to go to then? Not Vibratechnics (or whatever they're called)? Also bought 2 more spare centre caps this morning for a bargain price BOOM!! Plenty of spares now ;).

    172 poly bushes?

The dog done is the most Important in my opinion, notice the most after having mine done. What I found was after doing all the bushes was that u notice other things that are loose lol like I've powerflexed everything and got vibratechnics engine mounts so it's solid now and feels 100x better!

    steering noise (click/clunk)

...relished my top mounts are shagged so gonna be buying some new solis ones, just ain't decide which ones as yet. So this could be my noise, I still think there's something with the rack but I'm getting my vibratechnics engine mounts tomorrow and fitting them in the week so I'll report back...

    steering noise (click/clunk)

I just wanna get my car in the garage now! Wanna see what it is lol I've got some vibratechnics engine mounts coming on Sunday now aswell so if it is down to them I've got that covered. I think it is something to do with the rack tho, as it's bolted to the subframe. But will have to see.

...that in my ownership. Will be buying a machine polisher between me and my brother so will be even better shortly. Today I have managed to get the Vibratechnics upper engine mount fitted, was an easy enough job and allowed me to paint the upper mount as well; Time for the test drive......

Strugglers back!! ph1 172 project! (bit of a read)

...i got all the engine sorted and dropped that back into the car while it was still on axle stands!! Gearbox all back together with vibratechnics mount Then removed all the loom, chopped it all down to the minimum, and re-routed it with blue casing. i know this is not to everyones tastes...

...and front clamp/hangers. The knocking noise has been traced to the RH engine mount being more or less completely shot so ordered the Vibratechnics mount instead. Proved it to be this mount by simply inserting a steel section and road testing the car and it removed the noise completely Big...

    Astra VXR

I owned one with Bilstein suspension, LSD, uprated anti roll bars, vibratechnics engine mounts, 17x9 wheels, focused geo, stripped out with a rear cage circa 1220kg's, alcon calipers, 300bhp. Makes the Clio 200 I now own seem pathetically slow and incapable in the handling department...

    Best 172 engine mounts solution?

I find ours perfectly acceptable with vibratechnics mounts and the poly dogbone, but Porkies is on new standard mounts and the poly dogbone and that works well too. Key thing is just not having tired old mounts and getting rid of the standard dogbone.
  20. Keyser Soze

    Best 172 engine mounts solution?

Maybe running both Vibratechnics mounts then standard dogbone could minimise vibrations?
