Because people are more likely to crash into YOU because your car looks so much cooler.
I have to pay an additional Handsome tax on my car insurance because I'm so good looking. Same idea really.
My advice would be don't buy it.
It already has problems and to have the head gasket replaced is a book time of 12 hours, so you can imagine how much a garage would charge for that!
They're nice cars but savagely unreliable and you'd be better saving your money and buying something else...
Ok just to clear a few things up:
There never was a 130Bhp version VTS or GTi from standard. Not ever, never. They all came with the same TU5 engine. The only difference which probably started the whole 130Bhp myth was the introduction of EGR and some crap about the models made in 2000 not...
This questions seems to crop up a lot. Generaly a 172 is a superior car in terms of build quality and comfort. However a GTi/VTS comes in to it's own in terms of price and servicing. As has been said, the difference in quoted times between the 106 GTi and the Saxo VTS is the way the 0-60 runs...
Needed:
Sort squeaky belt out
Replace black tape on doors
Small overhaul on suspension
Replace two bulbs
Uber clean inside and out
Considering:
Raceland 4-2-1 manifold
De-cat
Tidy up of engine bay
New OE gearknob and gaiter
You clearly know f**k all about cars.
I suggest you put your car in Auto Trader and hand your liscence in to the DVLA and use public transport from this day forth.
/Anyway
I remember seeing this episode with the 182. Typical Clarkson though, ****, ****, ****, but in the end he says how...
The AX VTS would give a 172 Cup a massive run for it's money and be faster in some situations.
A Saxo VTS with breather mods would give a 172 Cup a hard time as it is.
Oh my God! Lol, quite a few then. Deffo get a meet sorted out for the summer, then I can come too (should have a Cup by then) and my mate (has a cup).
Mental!
This looks awesome.
Always love the idea of tuning 1.4 and 1.6 engines as opposed to going for the boring old 2.0 route.
Good on you lad, and looks like some top work there. Be good to see it when it's finished.
I can't believe the vultures on here!
If it's as nice as you say and to save losing money and/or claiming on insurance, why not try to source a new engine? The F4R used in your car was made for 6-7 years so chances are there will be a few floating about. Then you need to find a friendly garage...
Lol I love it when people call the GTi/VTS a chav-mobile; I've seen more decent ones than kevved up monsters. Not to say bad examples aren't out there though.
However, the lower spec versions do fall into the hands of youths with a taste for Halfords but then that's the same for most small...
I've got a Saxo VTS and had a play with my friends 172 Cup. Both cars are standard except I've got an enclosed induction kit and he had a passenger.
Both cars were similair pace all the way from 60-100+
He had a slight edge, but was minimal.
The VTS/GTi is a very underated car and...
Haha, you sure your butler didn't fill it with Pikey petrol for you?
If your car runs crap on 95RON I'd suggest you either take it to a garage or go see a doctor :)
Did you test drive it first or what?
Get used to most of squeaks and rattles. Ticking could be injectors. Thought about taking it back to the garage and saying you're not happy?
