F.A.O: V6 255 owners

Hi,

A mate of mine is thinking of getting the above and I need to know a few things about them before he defo get's one, so any V6 owners willing to answer questions then pls pm me.

Thanks in advance
Mark

My mate wants to know what are generally the good and bad points of owning one, also bearing in mind he has never drove a rear wheel drive car in his life

  FN2 Type R +MK6 Golf
Running one is expensive, not good mpg, expensive tyres(for a clio) and generally keeping a V6 as an everyday car

As above, to sum up a sentence to get a decent mk1 you need to spend 10k, 15k+ for a mk2, watch out for cars with too many owners, and the cambelts are very expensive, and finally Illiad blue is for arse bandits.

from memory it cost £60 to fill up and that would net 250miles of various driving

you can empty the tank from full in under 3 hours when "having it"

on the mk2 tyres are approx £700 odd for a set (fronts are specially made for the car on the mk2) mk1 tyres are much cheapers IIRC

brakes aren't too expensive

cambelt is a biggie, if you're buying a mk1 it MUST have had a belt, clutch and waterpump change IMO, the early 53platers (mk2's) aren't far off a belt change now

If he's considering a Mk.1 - tell him to take it easy.......... very easy. You can't just chuck these things around like you can with a 172 or 182.

60mpg+
Very well built
Do not brake easily and you can beat them into the ground like you can a 172
quiet to drive
Great for town driving as 3 point turns are easy.
No one will be jealous and there wont be anyone who wants to bash your car.
