Thanks - the other times you’ve replied to any of my questions / issues you’ve always been right…. I hope you’re not this time! 😆
Although it’s just an excuse to improve and upgrade if the engine is dead….
Thanks @Brigsy @Advikaz
I have sneaky suspicion it’s engine rebuild time 😕
What am I looking for compression text wise - 180-190 across all 4 (10-15% variation max?)
How low would be acceptable reading wise if they are within the same range?
Thanks 👍🏻
Evening all!
So as the title suggests I was at Donnington Monday just gone - had a brilliant day with the Clio 172 going well after new suspension & alignment amongst other bits…
Anyway after a good chunk of laps I came into the garage where the car was idling funny and then cut out. It...
Knocking noise fixed!!
Shorter drive shaft fixed the issue - I’d narrowed it down to pretty much knowing this would sort it and it has thank god!
For anyone having the same issue I bought a 640mm driveshaft on eBay from Lithuania, brand was LOBRO. A bit difficult to find & took some searching...
Sorry I forgot to mention that I’ve tried this, got maybe 7-10mm maybe, better but still didn’t cure it
After scouring eBay today I’ve found a 640mm LOBRO one from Lithuania
I’ll report back when it’s on to hopefully close this thread out with a resolution 🤞
It’s been a minute / hoping to resurrect this thread - life & work has got in the way of this….
Checked the plunge on the passenger driveshaft and there was very little compared to the drivers side
I’ve whipped out the driveshaft today and it measures 650mm in length - I reckon I need a 640mm...
Thanks - I’m definitely thinking it’s this now as well. Will investigate further…
Went into the garage tonight & she’s done a coolant wee on the floor as well now 🙄
This car is testing me at the moment!
Thanks for this Brigsy - it’s funny how you don’t know what you don’t know!
The car is bloody low at the front and is running 2.2 degrees negative camber which maybe explains it….
I’ve since done some Googling and this seems to be a thing / makes sense.
Sorry, in real layman’s terms I undo...

Wondering if any of you guys could help with a frustrating issue which meant a pretty pointless track day at Donnington on Sunday 🙄
My 172 has just had all new Gaz coilovers, driveshafts, alignment, 200 cell cat, rear brakes (basically a load of work to sort it out for track work)...
For anyone interested & to (hopefully) close off the none starting problem…
Contact cleaner and a little scrub of the relays in the fuse box & also the fuel pump electrical connector has done the trick seemingly!
For now….
Further update…
Crank sensor located, removed and cleaned and put back - still cranking but not firing 🤬
Worth buying a new one does anyone think? Do these just fail over time I’m guessing?
Cheers
So the fun and games continue…
I’ve changed the relays around and this hasn’t worked
I’ve tried just leaving the negative off the battery for a bit to reset the ECU
I haven’t tried the white connector because it looks like a nightmare to access - may have to though…
I have a cheap code...
Thanks @hopgop1 - will check the immobiliser
Yep cranking fine, just not firing - will get the white connector apart and give it a clean…. any tips on how to get it apart? Plastic clips / anything removable plastic are the devil on old cars I find 🙄
Evening all
New to the forum and thought I’d put a few pics up of my Clio 172 Ph2 track car…
Bought earlier this year from a decent guy who built it going through illness and never managed to get it on track unfortunately. It started out like this…
And now looks like this - I’ve taken off a...
