172 Cup brake bias - rear brakes compensator fault? Not the MOT issue!!

I would think winding out (lengthening it) the central allen key bolt will increase rear bias, and visa versa as pulling the lever down has the same effect, which I understand to increase rear bias. I had the MOT done yesterday, the brake readings are suggesting that on the drivers side both...

172 Cup brake bias - rear brakes compensator fault? Not the MOT issue!!

The lever is disconnected, the spring I refer to is only 15mm long, (#1) at the base of the lever that makes it return to vertical, ie minimum rear bias, the larger spring (#3) that is shown on the ECP part is not there as you would expect. I wanted to work the valve in case it was sticking...

172 Cup brake bias - rear brakes compensator fault? Not the MOT issue!!

Sorry 16v_paddy - I normally prevaricate, but went for it! So, have cleaned up the caliper slide pins, they were clean, just a bit dry. Have power bleed all the calipers - it was newish fluid anyway - some micro bubbles, nothing major. Fiddled with the compensator. Pulled the lever down to...

172 Cup brake bias - rear brakes compensator fault? Not the MOT issue!!

Its not on coil overs, so not corner weight related I would say. I have ordered the compensator - Bosch from ECP - £50, cheap enough to replace and rule it out. Could it be master cylinder related given uneven braking (possibly) on the 2 different diagonal circuits?

172 Cup brake bias - rear brakes compensator fault? Not the MOT issue!!

Resurrecting an old thread - I have a 172 Cup which is locking the drivers side rear wheel under heavy breaking. I don't have rusty discs like many suffer from, so I am definitely getting brake force to the rear - perhaps too much?? Could the compensator valve affect the force distribution to...

    Disconnecting brake pedal

Just wrapping this up, the clip does come off as suggested, lever the front section up, and it slides off. I fitted a new one on re-assembly, but probably not required, no levering required, it just slides on, and clicks once past the lever up tab. Pulling the pedal box out made doing the...

    Disconnecting brake pedal

Thanks, that is really helpful. Thinking I'd probably sprain the clip removing it, and as you don't want the pin to drop out of the brake pedal, I have ordered a new one to fit on replacement. Once my body stops aching from this weekends contortion efforts, I will have a go at this, and then...

    Disconnecting brake pedal

Sorry, probably not explaining it so well. When you push the socket onto the ball, it takes some force, then suddenly it 'pops' on. That was what I meant with the click. One of mine on the new linkage now takes no force to push on, so is lose, which I could probably live with 'IF' I could get...

    Disconnecting brake pedal

This is the motivation - it looks dead easy on the bench!

    Disconnecting brake pedal

I've had a nightmare today and feel like I've broken some ribs contorting myself into the footwell trying to fit a replacement clutch linkage rod on my 172 Cup after the other one popped off after a day at Cadwell. I have tried to do this in situ, removing the clutch cable mechanism so I can...

yes, saw that, just wanted to check they are anthracite part numbers. The photo shows that, but the OP used a stock photo, rather than of his car.

    Hella Xenons

I want to refresh the headlights on the 172 Cup. It has genuine xenons fitted as an upgrade, but they are starting to look poor internally, and ideally want to stick with the xenons. Where is the best place to get oe Hella xenons without paying dealer prices. Autodoc etc I think only sell left...

    New Xenon lights

Ok, another reason to return. What’s the correct part number for RHD then?

    New Xenon lights

Thanks. They are coming faulty like this from Hella, so really frustrating. This will the 4th one returned, with no guarantee the next will be ok. I’ll give the bent screwdriver a try but I don’t want to risk damaging it and then not being able to get a refund. There is an plenty of lube on...

    New Xenon lights

Refreshing the lights on the 172 Cup. It had xenon fitted back in the day, so sticking with those. However having real issues with the Hella lights from Autodoc. Only 1 out of 5 has had the inner adjuster above the removable motor adjuster pushed together. I’ve tried everything to push them...

    Headlight section loose

Resurrecting an old thread, but I have this same issue as point 4 above on a brand new Hella light, the middle ball/socket, the one that is above the levelling motor is not seated together, and no amount of coaxing will get it to pop back in. This is the 4th one I have had from Autodoc, all been...
