PS. I have previously use Performance Friction RH555 (now RH665) race fluid on my Subaru and it was excellent.
Has anyone used RH665 in a racing Clio 182.
And yes, I forgot to say in the title post its a 182
I've been using Castrol React but would welcome any other recommendations for a track/race only brake fluid
Also what quantity would I need for a full flush?
The system is standard, still with ABS pump, just has 6 pot calipers on the front which I can make an allowance for.
Many thanks
Andy
If they are for trackdays or race legal Corbeau are worth a look. https://www.corbeau-seats.com/
I'm very happy with mine, particularly the support through hard corners. Probably the best test of a race seat is that you don't even know it's there, if it makes you think about it on track then...
They look good quality so I had a quick Google of Knipex Tools. Bloody hell they are expensive, but I have to assume the price is reflected in the quality.
Being old and retired my tool(s) only get occasional use, so although I'm in the market for a few new electrical hand tools I think I might...
Is it to comply with MSA regulations to be able to take fuel samples for analysis?
If so I think there are MSA regulations regarding it being a dry-break coupling tee'd onto the fuel line. You then have the other half of the coupling and a minimum length of hose available in parc ferme.
I can...
Off topic, but I also learned something completely new........Toyota Yaris GR!
I've never heard of it, it looks like a bigger version of my daughter's Aygo.
So I was chatting to this guy in a fairly normal looking car who said he was going out with the circuit instructor, Bill Richards, in the...
That's exactly what I ended up doing, and I'm still here and the car's still in one piece!
That was for the first 2 sessions anyway. It was a bit damp in places and cold, but no spray coming off the tyres so I went for slicks all round. Once warmed up they worked well, and any slip was on the...
Good point, being a sessioned track day there is an obligatory 3 lap warm up at the start of your first session. I'll use that to get the brakes hot.
( I would call these 'yellow flag laps', no overtaking etc., but they are actually under waved green flags! The logic being the yellow is still...
I have a trackday at Lydden Hill tomorrow and it looks pretty certain that the afternoon will be very wet.
However there is a chance that the morning might have a dry session, or at worst maybe a bit greasy from all today's rain.
I have a decent set of part-worn 15" slicks on the car, and will...
This is probably a stupid question but, if you install the 98 RON map surely you commit to using 98RON or higher fuel from then on???
So for someone using their Clio for a daily driver doing reasonable mileage isn't the extra fuel cost a consideration against any benefit given by the remap...
I bought a new RSTuner Premium a few months ago, and it has been very useful as a diagnostic tool so far.
Mine is a 182 track only car, which is why I bought the 'premium' version as it will log running data into the unit itself, whereas with the standard version you need the PC attached. I...
In my case it was the clutch cover, and in particular the 'straps' that were braking. (This was on the genuine Renault Valeo kit.)
So it's not like needing a clutch with with increased clamping force, where you have increased the power and it just can't be transmitted through the standard...
I would totally agree, have a stronger clutch fitted at the same time.
I also have the Sachs Clutch from PMS as I broke the cover on both Valeo and LUK kits.
I had the Gripper in a totally standard box and it was great, I later changed the final drive to suit my regular track
You will use more tyre once you get used to how early you can put down the power.
As the diff Gripper lets you put down all the power even when the car is fully weighted on the...
I also had the final drive changed to 4.53 (13/59 I think), but that was specifically for Lydden Hill which is small and cornery and I was damaging the clutch at one particular corner with the standard ratio.
The shorter? ratio has made the car more suited to track use. Although there's still...
As you use the car on track I would say an LSD would give you the most benefit.
With an LSD you can at least use the power out of the corners so much earlier, which will in turn maximise your speed down the straights.
Later you can add adjustable suspension to improve how you put the power...
Interesting, I don't recall having and choice on the damping when I ordered my BC DS, also i would have thought damping would be rated in some sort of 'speed of reaction' type of measurement rather than weight. But I'm far from a suspension expert, just really interested in the topic.
Could be...
Many thanks for the explanation, that all makes sense.
I guess you have to go to full coil-overs on the rear to play with spring rates.
I don't think I'll be touching the suspension after this Saturday's outing anyway, the car was almost perfect!
I had part worn slicks on the front and used...
YESSSSSSS!!! :D
The track day with the part worn Hankook slicks went well.
I have now updated my Lydden Hill Clio 182 tyre test as below:
New Best: Part worn Hankook Ventus Slicks on the front, used Toyo r888r on the rear 48.30
Previous Best: New AR-1s on the front, scrubbed Ar-1s on the...
I must have been mistaken about choosing the rear spring rate, as I got the kit from KAM, and yes of course there is only the 8Kg rear option.
I guess it was the fronts I wimped out of going hard. Probably due to previous bad experience with over-hard fronts not allowing weight transfer under...
I have the BC DS on my 182 track/race car, and I am very pleased with them.
I specified 8kg/mm springs all round.
Many would say that's a bit soft for the rear, but that's based on tyres of equal grip all round.
I tend to put harder, less grippy tyres on the rear so the softer spring...
The slicks turned up a lot earlier than expected, and look in really good condition.
The only thing I should have asked was to have one from each side of the car, as they were originally run, but I got two from the same side.
As I want to use both on the front I can only spin one tyre.
It's no...
Many thanks for the information and the offer, much appreciated.
I have an odd mixture of rims and tyres, and apart from running different tyres front and rear I am also quite happy running different diameter wheels front and rear. Odd I know, but it works quite well. A 205/45/16 isn't much...
I've ordered a pair of the Hankooks now, but they will probably only arrive some time next week.
This might sound like a silly question to some for a tyre with no tread, but do you know if they are directional?
Some slicks are, as I found out to my cost and some aren't.
I managed to push the...
Many thanks for waking me up! I have no problem with using slicks, just never got around to finding a source of decent used ones for the Clio!
I just put in an offer for a pair on your link, and with if it's dry I'll get to try them at Lydden on 11th September.
I can't use them in my race...
That's a big difference!
I know Donnington is about twice as long as Lydden, but also has about twice as many corners, so I should be able to find around 0.5 seconds at least.
Looks like A052s might be a bit more than the DZ03G, so I'll try the cheapest first.
I'd love to get a lap in the 48s...
Very interesting thread, as another old git who still loves racing and track days I have enjoyed reading the recent posts about the tyres currently available.
I feel discussing tyres is a bit like debating Brexit, the origin of the universe, or religion! A different opinion for every possible...
Just to round off this thread, and say thanks for the forum's help once again.
The tiny silencer reduced the static noise test to a feeble 87dB, which means I will pass any noise test at any track, and probably even drive through a library without turning a head. The silencer had no adverse...
Yeah, definitely don't feel daft, this is how my offside rear pads ended up during a race at Brands Hatch after my first attempt at changing them.
I didn't get the importance of the tie wire on that little bit of 'angle' that slots in under the pads, why the hell are they so complicated.
I do...
