I know it’s an old post, but has anybody else found a better solution than reusing the original bonnet stay with a fibreglass bonnet? Maybe supporting it in the centre but then you have an obstruction when working under the bonnet.

I've had the gripper in for 5 years, only 'clicks' on turning in really slow in 1st gear. Never had the constant clonking before.

Was rebuilt by a local chap called Martin at agency transmissions. He replaced the pinion shaft, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears, syncro rings, bearings and seals.

Apparently it stops the drive shaft spline joint from moving too far forward and running into the gearbox seal.
