Well what I believe happened was:
Water was used instead of coolant
Water froze
I attempted to start car, water pump couldnt turn
Water pump pulley stripped timing belt
Well thats a quote assuming no damage to the engine. The cars value is probably only 300 so looks like it could be time to take it to the scrappy
Thanks for the reply though
Looks like my timing belt has broken due to a seized water pump. I think it broke when I was trying to start the car. What is a decent quote for having this repaired? Its a 1.4 1996 clio. So far I have one quote at 300 quid!
Thanks
That keyway on the camshaft doesn't spin. I looked in the engine from the oil filler cap and nothing appears to be moving when attempting to start the car.
If this means the timing belt has snapped.. will there be any damage seeing as the car was running fine, was parked.. then simply wouldn't...
Will have a look inside the engine from the oil filler part tomorrow.
There is a spark at plug no.3 (as this is the one the rotor arm has stopped at) but at none of the others.
Thanks for the quick reply. Is there any quick way of telling if the timing belt has gone? I'm not 100% sure if the belt is gone or not. But the car drove to my house fine, and was switched off..then wouldn't start again
Wonder if anyone can help me?
My mate came round with his car a couple of weeks ago, when he went to leave it wouldn't start. It "turns over" but won't start. We tried towing it too and letting the clutch out with it in gear, again with no luck.
Today we took off the distributor cap, and noticed...
Probably explains why the alarm is always going off then.. the interior scanners are tucked away under the dash! It's odd though, theres never any noise just the hazards continuously going off..and it even lets you start the car and drive.
Are these easy to remove?
Thanks alot for the quick...
Had the top bit of the dash off on my old 1.6 ph1 clio RXE the other day and found what looked like some form of hands free kit, not really sure. Anway, I traced the microphone looking bits back to these two boxes.
Anyone any idea what these are?
Any help greatly appreciated.
