Mine started to do this too about a month ago. It's staying off longer and longer and when it does work it doesn't seem to be instigated by anything I do. Not connected with bumps in the road, gear changes or changes to throttle.
If it is a gearbox sensor, does anybody have any advice on...
Good to hear from everybody - as to some specific points....
The Bear - I just knew that I wanted quiet so went for the biggest silencer. I dont know if there would have been the opportunity to try different silencers. I assume not, but I disappeared off into town with the girlfriend to do...
Like all my cars, Ive run my 172 on fully synthetic oil from new - Castrol SLX when I could get it cheap (used to work for Castrol) and more recently Mobil 1. Absolutely no problem with using a 0w 40 oil, the specification of which will surpass all criteria set by the manufacturer. If a cars...
Rob669, good to hear that you are happy with your exhaust too!
As for the volume level - it is only slightly more. Whereas I wouldnt normally be able to hear the standard exhaust on light throttle or providing some engine braking on slight downhills, I can now hear a burble that wasnt there...
Popped down to Cardiff on Saturday to visit Pro-Speed and get a new exhaust after my back box dropped off my Mark 1 172 a few weeks back.
Thanks to everybody on this board whos recommended Pro-Speed in the past, and to Charlie and his guys who fixed me up a top notch cat back system in a...
Mark,
Just reread your thread and noticed that you were referring to the main beam not the dipped. In this case the bulb is a more standard fit - I believe H7 bulb (but youd best check) - which you can get as a Philips Visionplus. This would be the one to go for.
Hope this is of some...
Mark,
Yep, those are the ones. I believe another designation for the 9005 bulb is B3 or something similar - but rest assured that they are the correct fitment for the dipped beam of your car. They are much better than the original equipment and are legal 60W versions (as opposed to those...

A bit of a late reply for magnet, but this may be of use to anybody with a twin headlamp Clio II. Ive got 172 (mk 1) and have been very disappointed with dipped beam.
After looking back through the posts on this site I decided to give the BlueVision bulbs from Philips a go. Ordered these...

My subscription copy hasnt arrived either - so I phoned them up this morning. They claimed it was sent out last week and must have gone missing, so theyve arranged to send another.
Judging from all the other subscribers who are still waiting, theyre either telling porkies or a lot of Royal...
