Yeah that and the fact that the steering appears to wander all over the place under any driving conditions. No need to make a guide really its easy enough to explain tbh. If someone else fancies doing it feel free. What does he mean about no such thing as FF? sorry I'm not a regular :-)
Im...
Well after months of pulling my hair out with knocking, crabbing, juddering, vibrations and very vague steering that seemed to have a mind of its own, I finally found the issue (just before selling!). Basically its been through an MOT and to 2 reputable garages, which all didn't find an issue...
I've got a hunch its my lower arm bushes, so ill let you know when I change them at the weekend for powerflex jobbies :-) (any knock is surely amplified by having solid mounts?)
No not tried that, I'll give it a go. It knocks on small bumps, turning or straight line driving at any speed, but its not a metal on metal knock, its almost like a knackered bush type sound.
There is definately nothing out of place and nothin moved by using an impact gun....I made sure of that as I was apprehesive using it on the first strut. If it helps, the knock is on both sides except the off-side is more noticeable.
Both. Just enough to pull the spacer flat to the top spring cup whilst off the car and then finished it off with the weight on it. I also checked everything manually afterwards.
Thanks for the replies. I'll just have to go over everything with a fine toothcomb again at the week-end when I do the wishbone bushes. If I cant find the knock ill just throw a spanner at it and order some crappy OE top mounts :-(
Springs are perfect in the cups, fitted corrrectly, torqued up correctly. They are fitting as they should be. I don't see the problem with using an impact gun...Its not as though theres a bearing to over tighten (its a rose joint) and they were tightened off the car so I know the cup / springs...
Nut runner, driver, whatever yes....14v Makita to be exact, very handy bit of kit....especially for removing / fitting the OE top mounts, without the need for a torx bit and without spinning the spring off its cup
Yes they're definately fitted correctly...I checked with K TEC to be sure and I tightened everything up with an impact gun so I would have thought its tight! And used the correct C spanner on the mountings. I've got a feeling that the lower arm bushes are shot so have ordered some poly bushes...
Just fitted these and theres noticeably more knocking when I go over bumps. Is this normal? I know that obviously I have effectively got a solid connection now and so I expected a bit more vibration etc, but just wondered if I have highlighted a further problem or if its simply the damper...
Just a bit of feedback, may be of interest to someone!! I've been having these problems for a while now without being able to pin-point the problem (Laziness and cold weather being the main reason!). I did get a garage to look, which reported back as everything ok and it flew through its MOT...
Basically at low revs on acceleration I can feel vibration through all the pedals on my 172FF, which will go away after 3k+ RPM. Also the car steers left and right on its own accord! I feel as though I am continually correcting the steering! There is also a knock when cornering tightly at any...
Cheers for the comments people. The wheels I got from prima racing, not sure if they still do them in anthracite but theyre good value and not OTT i think. I like the OE look and like to keep a car looking subtle :-)
Thanks for the invite Meganechick, I may attend one soon (I'm only in...
Hi this is my 172 FF. Had it for 6 months now. Its 52 reg, 32k, FSH, bult in sat nav etc. Previously had a 106 Rallye and this is rather more comfortable! Anyway, Hi! Pics....
