Thanks for the photos Jon and to Fred for confirming. I'll get the mounts ordered tomorrow.
The steering isn't as direct as it should be and on inspection the rack is moving a few mm, so i'm looking forward to getting the new mounts on and get the car driving as it should again.
This is a...
Thanks for quick replies. It hasn't got a sticker, but I guess that probably would have come off years ago.
Jon, have you got any more photos of the SMI rack please? If you have it would be good to see them and see if it looks the same as the one on my car.
If not I'll just go for the SMI...
Hi All,
I need to order new steering rack mounting rubbers, but when i phoned the local renault dealers they said there are three different rack manufacturers and I need to tell them which type it is as they are different. I've got the car up on ramps now, but can't see any manufacturer...
Sounds good, nice roads and nice views. There should be plenty of opportunity for lining the cars up in sceanic places.

Some really nice pics there. The ones in the multi-story car park with the lights on a particulary good.
Have you got a link to the one with 'CUP' written in light? That looked good on the camera screen.
I think I'm going to have to invest in a better camera and a tripod at some point...
It was good to meet everyone and have a good chat. It was a nice line up of cars as well.
I took a few on my compact digital camera, but only a couple came out okish:
I'm looking forward to seeing the proper meet pics.

Just to clarify the clips don't open as such, the plastic cover just pulls off, but the plastic clips that fasten it are quite tight, so I prised them apart slightly, so I didn't have to pull on the plastic bit too hard. I've not explained very well, but if you look inside at the clips you...
There are plastic clips around the inside of the interior light housing (the grey plastic bit in the photo above). Look inside more and you should see them. Carefully prise the clips open and it just pulls away. The sensor with the fan is further forward, mounted in the plastic trim.
I need...
I'm going to give a clay bar ago soon then. The paint work does look pretty good anyway, but I'm eager to try it out.
I used an autoglym wax, but I've almost run out of it. What wax would people recommend, or should I stick to the Autoglym wax as well?
THe standard ride hieght does look...
Thanks again for the comments .
I had an early morning drive this morning which was grear, but it didn't take long before the car was covered in dust.
Mines standard hieght. How much is yours dropped by ? The wheels look cool on yours.
What polish would people recomend I...
Thanks for the constructive and positive comments guys  . The sun shining on it really brings out the depth of the colour.
A lot of that time was polishing around places that are usually missed, like the door hinges, boot hinges, taking the rear lights out and polishing and waxing...
Yep, I did go most of the plastic bits, but missed the lower grill. I was getting a bit tired by that point. I've never used tyre shine, are there any recomendations?
I spent a lot of the time getting in to areas that don't usually get cleaned. Its the first proper session I've had on the...
Well I didn't have anything better to do today so I had decent polishing session on the 172. I ended up spending 5 hours on it and I didn't even start on the interior.
I mainly used autoglym products, Super resin polish, wax and 03b on the wheels and head lights. I polished all the bodywork...
I fitted a new cable yesterday. It took about 45minutes, but now I know how to do it I could do the next one much quicker. Its quite a simple job to do, but is a bit fiddley. I took some photos and could put a guide together if it would be useful?
A few pics:
This is looking up the seat...
Thanks again guys
It was around South Wales. The earlier photos are in the Wye valley (its Tintern abby in the first photo) and then I headed up towards Brecon and then south throught the Brecon Beacons. Its a stunning area with some great roads.
Kirk
Cheers for the link.
Thats the car, but I brought it for a fair more than that, from an advert rather than auction. I didn't see the auction for it, I guess the auction fell through as I brought it over a week after that.
Its not completly mint a few scrapes here and there and curbing on...
I take it you saw it on Autotrader?
Its got a lot of history with it, one owner from new and its been service by the same Renault dealer from new, with the last service including timing belt and a full set of springs.
It does seem to have been looked after, so I want to keep it that way.
Kirk
Don't want to sound boring but I'll be keeping it standard, its got to remain comfortable and reliable, so i'll be concentrating keeping maintained.
That said it may get some upgrade pads when the time comes and I keep getting tempted by Trophy wheels whenever I see a set up for sale. :o
I've had the 172 for a few weeks now, but I haven't had chance to give it a proper drive until today. So I gave it a quick wash this morning and then gave took for a 'short' drive which ended up lasting for 145 miles.
So far the car has lived up to expectations, good...
I'll be up for coming along, will be good to meet some other local owners and i'm looking forward to driving the 172 on a proper road that isn't covered with snow.

Good thread.
My drivers seat stopped tilting forwards. So I unhooked the seat cover as Aliengravy suggested above.
The seat cover is has three elastic cords which hook onto two hooks on the base of the seat, you just have to feel around for them.
That allowed me to get my hand up and feel...
Cheers
I really like small light cars, they can be a lot of fun and when it comes to small light front wheels drive hatches the French are very good at making them.
Where in Wales are you from? There are so many nice places and great roads all over Wales.
Still I do like getting out in the Peak district as well, so if there are going to be any Peak District runs or North west meets when i'm back up, i'll certainly want to come along.
Also I used to...
Hi,
Just thought i'd post and introduce myself. I've just bought a 2003 ph2 172 as a Christmas present to myself  .
I'm from South Manchester, but now live and work in South Wales and am hoping to get along to some meets.
The car I have brought is a 2003 ph2 172. It has 70k on the...
