I've had a CTR and now a 172. Loved the CTR and definately faster than my 172. Also comfier, far better gearchange and less faults. But, the 172 has more toys as standard (xenons, cruise, traction etc) and far better steering, also arguably more fun handling. The CTR was grippy and planted but...
I had this too, coton bud and wd40 cured it!
sometimes get the steering column rattle but an accurately aimed thump sorts it for abit longer.
Worst rattles are from engine and exhaust/cat on mine, interior isn't too bad at all
Had this problem for about a year and finally have fixed it. I've done all of the above including numerous throttle body cleans/resets etc but it too only lasted about a week before playing up again.
Mine was due to two things;
I found some chaffed cables at the ECU plug and around where the...
Finally got to the bottom of my rev problem. I had sticking revs, then random idle and sometimes random revving up to about 5k on its own. Then of course the heartbeat light would come on and put me into limp mode.
Well, i'd be regularly been cleaning the throttle body but it started happening...
Anymore info?
I've had this problem on and off for a year. Thoroughly cleaning the throttle body (taking it off) sorts it out for about 200 miles then its back again. I've not looked at any sensors though?
Are we marking for its faults or our opinion on how we like the car?
Its been fairly unreliable but seems ok at the moment so i'd say 6/10 for that
But to drive i like it, could do with more torque but great brakes and cornering so 8/10 for that!
Have you tried cleaning the throttle body thoroughly? (i.e take it off and give it a good clean then oil). If its sticking it could cause some of the above.
My M3 was useless in snow so i can imagine how bad the M6 is!
I think the clio with track biased tyres will be pretty scary in winter on the roads though, you'll have no brakes at all!
I'd go for a decent performance road tyre that will still cut it on track, from the likes of Michelin, etc
The rear tracking is non-adjustable anyway, so pray its not out!
I took a car i'd just bought to be checked and it was -10 out at rear, so i took it back to dealer and got my money back. I owned it for 2 days!!!
I thought it was just the std mapping causing rough idle. I've tried mine on both fuel types and it still does it
Also read that cleaning your Camshaft position sensor (aka TDC sensor) helps
Mine noise sounded like dashboartd but was coming from the reading light plastic above my head, abit of reseating and athump sorte dit, mine's pretty quiet now!
You can move the butterfly by hand in order to clean behind it instead of using a second person.
Mine starts fine but is abit jerky at low speeds sometimes and goes into limp mode. My TB is super clean (decided to take it off this time!) so i'll try the TDC sensor next. Doubt it'll help the...
Cheers, might buy the code reader thats about £50?
Its been read once about a month ago and found it to be the pedal, hence it was changed. Now problem is back so there is another issue.
Its the most unreliable car i've owned! Apart from my old Landrover that is!
I've read most of the threads about this but they point towards the PH1 172 with a different throttle body mechanism.
I've cleaned the throttle body (including taking it off) but its a sealed unit on the PH2 so i can't get into the motor mechanism to oil it etc. Any tips?
I'm getting...
I've had this a couple of times now and both times its been cured by cleaning the butterfly area with WD40 and a brush/rag, don't need to remove unit, just pipe from air filter.
Which light are you getting? I got the one in middle just below fuel light which is 'Electrical Fault' and of...
Lots of better cars out there but not for 3k! I love mine but won't be keeping it forever, its just a fun stop gap while i got married and get saving again!
To the OP.
Car in the ad looks nice but its alot of money for 91k mile private sale. i got mine for 2900, a 53 plate with 80k from a dealer including warranty. So wouldn't go above 3k, then you're only 500 off!
When i was 18 i had an RS Turbo and insurance was crazy but you only live once...
