Not sure....but a grand a year is still a lot of money for a 24 yr old. I take it you are still subsidised by ( living with ) your parents. A 172 Cup is a big step up from a Saxo VTS to be fair.

Get a 172 Cup. A massive step up from a Saxo VTS but you might have a shock when you try to get insurance.

I too had a black LCR 225 for 30 months until May this year :) Black looks great if you clean your car every week and more importantly it is garaged. I personally will never get another black car . The LCR has really weak black paint and shows swirls at will. You really need to hand wash black...

For me, Vauxhall just make crap cars and have a chav image. I would have a VX220 or Holden VXR, but the Corsa and Astra VXR's just look awful to me. Plastic body kits and chav exhausts. Get a Clio, love the rear diffuser.

Motorpoint get their cars from all over the place, you need to be careful. They had a decidedly dodgy batch of Golf GTI's which had sat in a compound in the Dubai desert for 18 months before selling on an 07 plate. The cars were corroded and nearly out of the VW 2 yr warranty but were cheap...

Dont worry about 172s falling into the hands of Chavs. You dont see old Clio 16 vavlers being driven by Chavs and they can be had for next to nothing these days. The Vauxhall brand says CHAV to me, when you see all the sh*tbox Corsas, Novas and Calibras driven by the underclasses. The VXR...

Another guy whos had a 172 Cup and now has an LCR. No regrets whatsoever, the LCR is by far the better all round car. Megane 225 is just plain ugly IMHO, although I do like that Orange colour they come in.

LCR mate. I went from a Cup to a LCR and havent looked back. The Cup undoubtedly handles better, but in the real world ( ie not driving on twisties ) , a standard LCR will out drag a Cup, and has a good spec ( 18s, Brembos, Climate, Tracker, 6CD ). Also looks better and doesnt come with the Boy...

The sevicing deal on 260s is not transferrable should you wish to sell the car, again this well affect residuals. I reckon theres going to be loads of these on the market in 3 years time going for a song.

Great review mate. Went from a Cup to a Cupra-R 225 myself and havent looked back. Miss the handling of the Cup but the Cupra-R has a certain maturity about it and at the same time Q-Car understated hot hatch looks / blistering performance. A £500 Revo re-map is coming soon and a nice 270bhp...

In everyday driving terms ( ie A roads, motorways and the odd B road ) its a quality motor and definitley a step up from the 172/182. People who sl*g the handling off have proabably never driven one. Its really not bad at all, and the Brembos are top notch. £500 for an extra 50 bhp and a switch...

I went from a 172 Cup to a Cupra R 225 and have not looked back. A definite step up in car terms. £500 and a trip to Revo / Jabba later and youre looking at 270bhp which the engine / brakes will handle comfortably. Looks so much better and is better built than the Magane 225 as well.

Nice car mate, love that colour! I have just gone from a 172 Cup to a Leon Cupra R 225 and am loving the turbo boost. You ride along on a total wave of torque. A totally different and more laid back driving experience. I usually drop it into 5th gear to overtake ;) Dont know what tuning...

Lots of Cups for sale at the minute, but even more Mk2 172s. As for problems, the Cup and the 172 are built at the same place so they share the same common problems . If it was my choice I would gor a Mk2 ITR. The Mk1 ITRs are great cars but look really dated now.

I went from a 306 Rallye to a 172 Cup and started putting £10 less a week in to do the same miles. The Clios fuel consumption is easily better than the 306 ( especially on SUL ) . Currently averaging around 35 mpg on the computer and can believe it to be honest.

I had my Cup shod in them 2 months ago. I dont theink they are as good as the Continentals that were on originally, but were cheap and the tread pattern looks cool ;)
