Advice after 1st track day in the clio

That's a very comprehensive racing CV! XR2 sounds like it would go straight into the Cannon's Tin Tops who I've raced with at Brands, they're a BARC South East series so stay local: http://www.barcsoutheast.co.uk/about.php

Advice after 1st track day in the clio

I went the 'quick and dirty' route of just pulling out the arch liners. I don't doubt there are negative side effects for this but, for me, the positive of getting air moving in the wheel well outweighed them. I do have ducting and plans for getting it all set up a bit neater (though not to the...

Advice after 1st track day in the clio

I have a lightly modified (KTEC coilovers, stripped interior, rear ARB) Phase 1 172 ('99 so the version before your car). I also am a regular at Brands as I'm local and it's a track only car (though still road legal). I struggled with brake temps the first couple of times out, and that was even...

    Clio cup racer #34

Hi Mark, I think we raced at Brands together last year, you were out in the Spyder, I was in the orange mini. You sticking with SEMSEC or considering BARC SE (Tin Tops/QMN)? Lydden kills tyres, particularly the n/s front, I think its the poor surface and Chessons drift in particular. I reckon...

sonny172cup "track car to race car project"

Re: sonny172cup "track racer project" I reckon... it's a race car, you should only worry about cosmetics when you've had a coming together with armco/another competitor/all of the above.... ;)

sonny172cup "track car to race car project"

Re: sonny172cup "track racer project" maybe worth giving them a call if you do fancy it, I've guested with them in the mini before now running under the regs from their other series (InterMarque for anything goes spaceframe specials). There's also the QMN champioship but you'd be nearer the...

sonny172cup "track car to race car project"

Re: sonny172cup "track racer project" Hi Sonny, it's Chris (from OPL). Well done on getting your first race in the bag, you're now on the learning curve which, from my experience, never actually ends but adds a whole new dimension that track days simply can't ever give you. Looks like you were...

1275 GT Stolen from the Birmingham Area!

Sadly true - we sold some of the older parts from our race car over the winter and couldn't believe the money we got for them on eBay. An original 1970's chronometric tach went to someone in Japan for over £500, likewise our old head went to Malaysia for good money too.

    New Project.. Mini Content

If you're interested, we're selling the Force Racing converted wheels from our car. You can spray the centres any colour you want obviously (currently blue!). They're 7" wide, let me know if you're interested, more details on the thread I started on my car...

    New Project.. Mini Content

Trouble is you need an awful lot of them to get real performance! Good luck with the project Tunst, always good to see an old mini given a new lease of life.

When is an escort not an escort?

Plenty of Escorts ended up with V8's in the front and raced very successfully e.g. Peter Thurston's old car: Just trying to work out where this would race, a very limited number of series that would accept it.... Hang on, Google says it's been out in Castle Combe Sports and GT's.

IT Corporate people - Good Technology

I'm not in IT so know nothing about the implementation but my company uses it and, as a user, I'm pretty happy with it. Means I don't need to carry round a Blackberry as well as my personal phone. It's pretty basic and there are some sync issues but overall I find it very handy. Only real...

    Classic Mini race car

I raced with the migs this year at the Brands mini festival, great racing. They have a guest class now for cars that aren't to series spec. Even though I have a 1380 and LSD, which should give me an advantage over the spec cars, I was still half a second off the front runners which, in such a...

    Classic Mini race car

Finally have a camera setup that can cope with the vibration, some footage from my race at Brands Hatch yesterday, a good start (helped by some spinners at Paddock) making up 6 places by Druids, then end up having a good scrap with some French shopping trolley... ;) http://youtu.be/pl7aQaJCYAk

    Clio 197 cambelt - TwoTechs and Ren7oaks

I've used both in the last year and, whilst I was happy with Ren7oaks, I'll continue using TwoTechs as they quoted a price up front for the job and then stuck to it (even though it sounds like it took an hour or two longer than anticipated).

Hole in PAS pipe, repair or replace?

Update: just called my local Renault specialist who helped confirm it was the low pressure pipe I need (got the wrong pic above so you were right Papalaz). Cheaper and easier replacement than the high pressure side though they wouldn't commit to saying how long they expected it to take.

Hole in PAS pipe, repair or replace?

Thanks, on the plus side, my track side repair was obviously better than I thought, on the negative side, this doesn't sound like a job for my local (non renault specialist) garage.

Hole in PAS pipe, repair or replace?

Thanks - have seen them mentioned when I did a search on this earlier. As I understand it I/the garage, would have to remove and send off the pipe to get a replacement made (do they not keep patterns??). Would they replace the whole pipe (as in the picture above) or just the part of it that has...

Hole in PAS pipe, repair or replace?

Normally I'd agree, especially as it's a track day only car. But there's a huge difference price wise between just repairing and the full replacement (I've got no time to do it myself so would send off to my local garage). Also, since it was worn through by the heat shield (which I've now moved)...

Hole in PAS pipe, repair or replace?

Hi all, at a recent track day the heat shield wore a hole in the metal part of the power steeing hose on my Ph1 172. I managed to repair it at the track and make it home with a bit of old rubber pipe and a jubilee clip but now need a permanent repair. Replacing the whole pipe is a pain and...

Stopping PAS fluid boiling/spitting out resevoir

Interesting thread, we boiled our fluid at Donny at the weekend, had put it down to a rubbing heatshield (which later wore through the metal pipe) adding extra heat into the system but looks like it's a common issue.

    600 brake 205 anyone?

Can't see how it could ever put that kind of power down? A 4wd conversion would make more sense surely?

    Hard as nails Classic Mini

The aero stuff is actually quite interesting but those wheels and arches are OTT and doubt they'll have made any improvement to the handling.

    Race of champions

Ditto, was good fun but have never been so cold. There was some Scandinavian bloke sat in front of me in a t-shirt, I think it was the beer that was keeping him warm... I kept looking at the roof thinking 'why don't they close it'. Didn't realise that the new £600M stadium had a moveable roof...

    Winter Motorsport Viewing

They held a rally at Brands last year which was free to attend, not sure if they're holding it again this year but worth going if they do.
