I had this and changed my centre exhaust mount which didn't look tired until I compared it to the new part which is improved. Genuine improved part was seven quid. All sits straight now but it still whistles although I've given up trying to fix it now.

Bumping this incase anyone wanted to know the results. Contact cleaner and solvent cleaner work. Paint thinner worked with very little elbow grease but definitely wear a breather. I didn't have one to hand and only lasted a few minutes before getting dizzy. The best advice is don't rip them off...

Update: Fitted the part today, thanks to the guide it took virtually no time at all. On inspection there was a crack under the cat-centre join which was also blowing. Welded that up and now the car sounds so much better. NO WHISTLE! However now the silencer is blowing - need a new silencer...

Thanks for all the replies. IM going to get the gasket replaced this month and I'll let you know what happens as it might help some of you guys work out what the whistle is. For the record since the garage fiddled with it it has become more of a wooshing almost exactly over 3000rpm.
