Intermittent speedo fault, drops to 0 every so often, normally comes back after 5 miles or so. I'm guessing it's a faulty sensor.

Is there a spring that holds it up against the bodyshell? Or is my valve knackered and it should stay up on its own?

Right, my cup has failed on the usual rear brake issues, the previous owner had fitted the rod between the rear beam and the arm on the valve so it was tested as a regular system. You could probably get a new bracket knocked up for less than 38 quid. There's a couple of machine shops in Lincoln who could do it for you. Would look super trick if you got it anodised ali too.
