When does it whine, just going side to side during normal use or is it only on full lock? Full lock is nothing unusual for PAS but if it's all the time, check your belt / belt tensioner, have you checked the fluid any bubbles could cause issues, Oh and does it the steering judder at all...

When we started it up to move it into the garage you can smell the alternator now. Now just the heater to fix. Hoping it's the rheostat pack, can I take that out and send it off for repair and still use the car??
