My CarPC and Audo Install (long)

Yeah, that's the main reason that I used an inverter... in Australian dollars, it's the difference between a $40 inverter, and a $400 12V power supply! Also, the 12V supplies are usually very low power. I'm running a Sempron 2600, rather than a VIA 1300. Yes there is, but as I said above...

My CarPC and Audo Install (long)

I've had a few ppl ask me about how I did my Car PC, so here's the details. If you're not interested in how it was done, you can skip all my blabbing, and go stright to the links... they're the pics (: Currently, it's a WindowsXP Pro PC, Boston Pro 6.5" splits, Audison LRx amps (one for splits...

Which Focals will fit in my 182

Hi again! Get some spacer rings and just attach them to the door card for extra width and depth. You can put thick spacers behind the factory grilles. Also, you can cut just the back off the speaker cavity to fit any depth of speaker that you like. Believe me, its not butchering. I dont...

    renault clip software

Thats not what I want. I need to know whether the clip connects via a standard OBD2 to serial (or usb) converter. It seems that nobody really knows what the hardware is. The only reason that I ask is that I dont want to waste my money on buying the clip software if I cant use it with my ODB-2...

    ICE install, here we go...

Oh yeah, if youre keeping the factory head unit, then youre going to have to buy an RCA adapter and/or get an amp with high-level (speaker level rather than pre-out level) inputs, and it wont sound as good (still OK, but not as good as it could). Scott.

    ICE install, here we go...

Hi, Its hard to advise without knowing your budget, but this is what I would recommend (might be too expensive for you at the moment, but remember the old saying... "you get what you pay for"). You also said you want "superb sound quality", and this does not come cheap. It doesnt matter what...

    renault clip software

Hi, Thanks for the info. Yeah, I expected the software to run on any laptop, but I was wondering about the cable. So is the cable not a normal OBD-2 to serial convert (using, say, the ELM, Motorola or MAXIM chip?) Cheers, Scott.

    Renault clip software

The software is not a problem... its the hardware Im concerned about. Will it work from a standard computer? Ive seen the dealers machines, and yeah, they look like standard laptops... but whats the interface to the car? Will it work with a standard ISO OBD-II interface interpreter, or do they...

    Renault clip software

Hi all! I already posted this in the other board, but didnt really know where it fitted... so its here too (: Does anybody know anything about the renault clip software? Does it require specific hardware to work, or just a serial obd-2 port connector like the scantool or similar?

How hard to fit 6.5 comps

Its easy to fit any 6.5" speakers. I have the second deepest speaker I could find in mine... but I didnt have to cut the plastic backing off. Its easy to do though. ... by the way, I would *definitely* use 6.5" rather than 13cm speakers. It will make a huge difference.

    Locating front tweeters

Taking the dash out takes hardly any time. Its easy. I did it without instructions and it took maybe 10 minutes or so. Just pull off the trim, unscrew the screws, pull on the dash and its off. If youre agile, you can even mount them through the tweeter speaker covers. Twist them about 1/3 of...

    false floor amp fixing

I did the same thing with mine, but I put a thin sheet of MDF underneath. I screwed the amps (two of them) to the MDF, screwed some pine supports to the MDF and screwed the whole amp/mdf/pine setup to the false boot floor. I cut some holes in the false floor and use a router to put a groove...

    mk2 17cm speaker adapters

Yep, went down to the car audio shop and bought a couple of MDF rings. Simple as that. I bolted the rings to the door and bolted the speakers to the rings. No probs. I have Boston Pro 6.5" splits in there... cant remember exactly, but theyre pretty deep, so I had to cut the plastic at the...

    false floor for boot

I took out the boot carpet and traced it onto some MDF, and then cut two holes for grilles for amps. I cut a square of MDF and screwed my amps onto it, and suspended that underneath the upper false floor bit, underneath the holes Id cut for the amps. I used a router to cut a groove around the...

    Focal V2’s

Why are people worried about cutting that little bit of plastic out? Nobody can see it... even if you sell your car, whos gonna pull the door cards off to make sure theyre intact before buying it?! Also, its very easy to cut (it even has circular guides moled into it for different sized holes!)...

amp at the front - where did you mount it

I amped the front speakers and added a sub, so I ran cables down both sides of the car into the boot. I made a false floor for the boot with a suspended panel underneath for the (two) amps to sit on. That way, I dont lose any boot space from the amps.

    Best speakers around

    > > the problem here is that 99 out of 100 people do not > want to start cutting up parts of their car, > Maybe, but theres not really any reason not to... If its for resale value, then it doesnt really effect anything... you wont notice if theres a speaker in there...

    Standard Renault tweeter question

    CD Changer compatibility

All of them will be either AI-Net or M-BUS... if its either of those, then any changer that is compatible with those will work. AI-Net wont work with M-BUS of course, and vice-versa. The stackers all have it written on them as to whether theyll work with AI-Net or M-BUS head units. You wont be...

no room behind the head unit

Im not sure about the others, but in the sport, theres a panel above the din slot which has the three buttons - locking, hazard and demister I think. Anyhow, you can pull that panel off (it just clips in) and from there you can see a big space above the head unit. You can wedge all the wires up...

    Best speakers around

Personally, Id go for Focal, Boston Acoustics, Rainbow, Hertz, Morel. You can fit 6.5" splits up front, so dont worry about that. Not sure about the depth on the Mk1, but on a Mk2 you can fit as deep a speaker as you want if you remove the plastic backing behind the speaker (I had to do that...

Sound deadening and Door Liner Removal

Ever done any under the carpet? Its hard to work out where the noise is coming in from, but it sounds like a lot is coming in near the footwells and between the seats. I have an aftermarket exhaust that isnt a stupidly loud one (nice and hidden too), but it does make more noise than the factory...

Sound deadening and Door Liner Removal

Sound deadening and Door Liner Removal

Yeah, I know how much they cost. Its not too bad. And yeah, Im serious about it. Weight wise, yeah, it was a concern, but I really like my audio and cant stand the road noise. The stinger roadkill weighs in at about 4kg per square metre (for all you oudated people thats 9lbs per 10sq ft)...
