was free to fix under warranty, god knows if I had to pay for it. My Focus has had 3 problems in 6 months, the only perfect car I have ever owned was a Toyota - and guess what brand I'll be buying next ;-)
Hi ClioBritt
My 03 plate 172 had a similar issue, it would go into "limp mode" without warning and the warning light would come on. I guess living in Plymouth you use Mumfords to get work done - be careful!!! Mine went back 3 times, each time I told them the symptoms and they would fix...
All - just about to order some new plates as mine are looking a mess, is it easy to fit new ones? Do the old ones just pull off, and the new ones stick on? Or are there concealed screws?
Cheers
Guys and Gals - thought I'd let you know how my 30 month old 172 is giving me grief....
Basically back in November I was driving along quite happily at about 40 when the engine warning light came on (the coil-type light) and I lost revs. Whatever I did I couldn't get it over about 3000rpm in...
Cheers guys. Going for 2 new Contisport for the rear at 135 fitted, and having the backs moved to the front axle. It was nearer 180 for 2 F1 Eagles fitted and I haven't had cause to complain about the standard tyres. Have to see how long 5mm at the front lasts!
OK, that's good advice. I don't want to buy 4 new tyres if I don't have to! Should I pay much more for Michelin PE2s than for a ContiSport? Would it be OK to have 2 different types of tyre on the car?
Hi. I've got a 28 month old 172, and have covered about 12800 miles in that time. I've been having a few traction problems in the recent bad weather, so to be on the safe side thought I better check out my tyre wear. I'm down to 2mm at the front (in the middle of the tyre) and 5mm at the back...
Guys,
Can this be too cheap - 165 for a Viper on "Buy it Now" ??? Probably hot but would you guys trust it?

Thanks for your opinion Jimbo. OK, I think you guys have convinced me to save the 80 quid or whatever the open kit would cost. 2 more questions then:
a) Would a Viper sound any different to the stock airbox?
b) How clever do I have to be fitting the pipe that comes with the kit, or would...
Just to clarify everyone, the tuner said 10bhp with a chip as well. And he didnt promise anything, just said hed "seen it happen" on a 172.
Anyway, if I bite the bullet and shell out 200 quid would anyone be able to give me a numpty-guide to installing a shielded IK? This is for a bloke who...
I guess the ITG panel filter doesnt alter the sound at all, can you feel the difference between an OEM filter and a decent aftermarket one? Not after anything earth-shattering, but it would be nice to feel where the money had gone!
Ive been following this forum for a while and know what you all think of induction kits. The thing is, are cone kits really that bad? A local tuning shop recommended a replacement chip and a K&N to give an extra 10bhp, and I cant see why he would lie????
I cant see myself every getting a...
Hi guys. I thinking about spending some money on my 172, and need some advice on the best way to blow 300 odd quid. 3 options as I see it: a) new exhaust system - nice looks and sound, not much power, plus will it effect my emissions...? b) Superchip - have a good garage nearby that will fit but...
Heres one for all you petrolheads...
Ive heard a lot of conflicting stories about using different RON petrol, and what it does to the performance / state of your engine. Am I being a muppet using standard 95 RON petrol, or should I be going for 97 RON every time? I know some cars like the...
OK, does anybody REALLY know whether there are such things as RenaultSport official mods for the 172? Ive seen several postings from people saying theyve had them, and a 172 in the back of EVO magazine said it had offical mods. If so, anyone know any contact details as Id be happy to spend a bit...
Thanks everyone - looks like a Magnex exhaust and a new filter is the way to go then... Bit worried about all these different BHP figures though - might have to get my down to the local rolling road to see what exactly my "172" makes!
Hi guys ( + gals?)
Anybody out there got hard facts on what kind of performance gain you can get from exhausts, induction kits, chips etc.? On my last car (Corsa sport) I gained exactly 0.4 bhp from my mods - not exactly great value for money!!! I love my 172 at the moment but I just know Ill...
