Yeah I’ll do that too. Easy one to check. The injectors are brand new. I think the fuel is fine as the problem is Not happening all the time. Sometimes its ok and will rev cleanly to redline and drives great and then out of nowhere it dies in the arse and wont behave again unless its switched...
Yes i have an rstuner on the way, should be here early next week and then i will be able to check obvious things. None of my obd readers work on the phase 1!
Some great info there. I changed the fuel pump recently and changed the regulator to a god bosch one inside the pump housing. I will change the fuel filter and then go from there, checking the return line.
the cat is aftermarket, just a single one not dual like the factory item. The whole...
Cambelt is due. Was 4 years ago although has only done 20000km in 4 years
i guess thats a possibility but if timing had slipped wouldnt it be bad all the time?
Have been battling a running problem for the last 6 months or so. It is so bad now that the car is no longer driveable. When attempting to accelerate, there is no power. The engine feels like it wants to rev and makes a loud throbbing sound not too dissimilar to a subaru boxer engine.

Received back the throttle body from the ebay fella, installed. Its sticking so needs some adjustment. Overall quality of the work is very good but wish it worked perfect first time. He has offered some tips on how to adjust the butterfly slightly to stop it rubbing.
wow I'm surprised someone was able to code a phase 1 key besides Renault themselves. I had to order a genuine key through my local australian renault dealer as no one here would touch it. Had to supply my VIN for the coding
Thanks to @Adeyspec ’s information the australian phase 1 appears to be a factory special. The documentation has the note “SPECIAL FEATURES FOR AUSTRALIA”
Throttle body slowly deteriorating again :(
once its warmed up its an absolute b**ch to drive slowly. Spraying a bit of WD40 around the the spindle helps for a few days.
everything is sparkling clean, there is just too much play in the spindle
Epic thread bump - sorry! I am now the owner of this car
Up until a few weeks ago, the airbag light was still an issue. An auto electrician diagnosed that the drivers seat wiring was stuffed so he hardwired it and created a slightly longer loom piece with proper sheathing. I doubt I’d need to...
Interesting info, thanks. Interesting that there were only 99 iceberg silvers in UK, out of the known 85 phase 1s in Australia, 35 are iceberg, by far the most common.
'The 172 Cup phase 1 definitely wasn't a dealer-fit sticker pack. It would have been a head-office or factory fit special. Here...
Door sill scuff plate is numbered, riveted metal plaque with VIN and build number on the engine bay slam panel and I think thats about it. Everything else looks identical to a RHD car with dash in kmh
Edit: they appeared to be available with more colour choices than the UK so probably got the...
