Right, this is what I'm wondering.
Are the 3rd party tools really inferior or is it just that the people who have bent them just didn't know what they were doing and would have bent a genuine one if they'd done it the same way?
Aye fair enough, and I can see how that would happen if you try and do up (or even loosen) the pulley bolts without using the pulley locking tool.
I just don't understand how it happens when it's done correctly.
From what?
The tool is essentially a flat plate of a given thickness defined by the cam slots. As far as I can make out the genuine tool is the same outline shape as the 3rd party tools, which means the only possible variable which could lead to a 3rd party one bending where the genuine one...
OK, so it's the horseshoe bit that apparently bends?
The thickness of the tool is determined by the slot in the end of the cam, so what super modulus steel are renault using for theirs which can resist bending where 3rd party ones cant?
Anyway surely that tool is not actually meant to take any...
OK, something I've been wondering for a while...
It's been said so many times that you must use the genuine Renault timing tools, everything else is crap. Genuine Renault or don't bother etc.
Can someone please explain exactly why this is the case though?
One other thing to note about a towbar mounted carrier on a clio is that the towbar is rated to a noseweight of 75Kg.
You need to bear in mind that this means 75Kg load straight down on the towball. A bike rack cantilevered off it is a very different prospect though and in effect you are...
The swan neck bit plugs in, the the bike rack mounts to that like any other. I decided not to go for this type because I felt that if there was any small amount of play in the interface, the bike rack would wobble all over the place. Wouldn't be an issue for a trailer as it has wheels on the...
Does it have red wheels (iirc) and a loud exhaust, and being given death everywhere it goes?
If so, I've seen a couple of times too, I'm on the ex-RAF base at Locking, it's been around the estate here and along the A371.
I recently fitted a towbar to my ph1 172 for a bike rack. Easy to fit, took me about an hour and a half, plus wiring, another hour or so.
Bought it from PF Jones, £100 all in. I got the Bosal one but there are other make available, all 'much of a muchness'
There is also one from a Polish...

Has a cliosport sticker in the back window
I bought some headlight protectors cheap but they dont fit like the ones on my 19, which just hook under the headlight and clip over the top, 1 piece.
The clio ones hook over the top but at the bottom there is just 2 holes, where I gather there should fit some plastic clips to attach under the...
OK, so I've identified a couple of options for cheapo replacement (semi-temporary) wheels. Both are 15" but 6J as opposed to 7J for the F1s but being designed for a family bus vehicle, should be more than man enough to stand up to being used on the roads around here... opinions?
Original...
Jesus, even though there's no functional or aesthetic difference when fitted, just knowing that one wheel was different to the others would niggle away in my mind and drive me absolutely mental.
but then I am a bit OCD like that :dead:
edit to add: I have one brand new spare OE alloy for my...
Does anyone have the dimensions for the clio II steering rack bushes? outer diameter, inner diameter and length?
A mate needs a new one for his 19 16V and they've been discontinued by Renault. Want to see if a clio one can be used/adapted.
Cheers
So... since OZ F1s seem to be made of Plasticine or material of similar consistency and/or the roads in this country are just too crap for them, a couple of mine are now more egg shaped than round.
Additionally, replacing them appears to be a search for rocking horse sh1t and expensive when you...
Don't worry, it's not the usual question!
I have a 2001 172 with Tuner List setup.
There seems to be 3 options for stalk adapters:
Autoleads: PC99-X12 (stalk only adapter)
Connects2: CTSRN003 (stalk only adapter) or CTDRNS003 (stalk and display)
I have bought the CTDRNS003 stalk and...
Many thousands of them were sold.
The thing is, once this type of cars get to a certain age/price bracket, they fall within the scope of 'a certain type' of owner, who mod them (cosmetically), thrash them and make them undesirable in many ways to any further owners. Countdown to the scrapyard...
Robiniho77 where are you based?
I was watching this one as well and was thinking of going for a look too (I'm in Southampton)
I bought a silver one instead and am picking it up tomorrow evening.
:)
